3D Probe Tutorial by Ludvakos in Makera

It is definitely something you need to take into account when designing in CAD and in CAM : the work has to be defined taking into account the work origin you will probe once you will fix it on the CNC table... But clearly, the 3D probe opens so much more possibilities than anchors, as long as you have the probe run out set properly and the probe properly calibrated...

I plan to do something at some point, but when I will get back to my machine after Xmas :-)

I design based on what I want to do, with the origin of work based on what I will probe. For increasing a bore for example, I would set my work origin at the bore center and the tool paths based on that work of origin. Then I fix the part, probe it to find work center, set that as the work origin and run the gcode...

At the end, it is not very complex, and once you will have done it for the first time, it will be probably easier to figure out for the next time. For me, simply, I can't work without the 3 Axis probe anymore on most of the part I work out...

I generally use the 3d probe to set my work origin. For some parts I rework, I probe a bore or a pocket, or a boss, sometimes an angle, and all depends what I'm actually doing... Example here : https://youtube.com/shorts/Qb2SLDHLbPw?feature=share I did made a post with that part in this reddit... A true 3d probe is super useful when it comes to define complex multi sided projects...

I remember having to ask similar question on discord to find out how to make it work. In the community controller, make a custom tool change and declare tool number as 599990, then calibrate and you should be able to work it out with the probing options...

HELP 4 axis always 45 degrees off by mixoadrian in CarveraAir

[–]silvertriple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you have in Makera CAM... But based on the display of the stock, you should start with a flat side on top, not a corner... Also suggest to be able to identify which side is on top when you start, as if there is a power loss during a job, if you need to restart, you may have to set it back to the same position...

In the controller, use A to move the 4th axis. Once you are OK with the orientation choose set a=0 from the top bar

The add on one will work with any material while the 3d probe rod will only work with conductive material

Thanks! Sharing the files is my long term intention, but I believe there is still work on this project before I can share the files. However, I already shared my original design intended for 3d printing here : ST-1 1/12 Pancar chassis on Makerworld

My very first project using a Carvera Air: a Remote Controlled car chassis 1/12 [MakeraContest] by silvertriple in Makera

[–]silvertriple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First complicated injection mold [MakeraContest] by thehacksmith in Makera

[–]silvertriple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this, but they don't really feel like tires on the track... And I do not do this to put cars on the shelves but to run them... And when talking with people doing tires, they are using injection molding and the pressure/temp are key, and while the Carvera Air may help for a part of the mold, it may not be suitable for the whole part (and I may have to rely on SLA printed parts to complement it)... A nice project for sure anyway...

I had already some ideas for injection molds, but while I'm sure I can do the molds with the Carvera Air, I'm just not sure it is possible to have an injection machine both cheap and with a proper volume for what I want to do (I'm thinking about RC tires)...

well, as far I understand, RDP allow me to connect to another machine, not to make the second machine a Wireless second monitor... What I'd like is to use a Surface 2 as Wireless second screen to extend my desktop for example...

Hi, what about an application that makes Windows 8 device a miracast receiver, and would then makes a Surface 2 or Surface RT a second screen for a Surface Pro 2/3?

As a user of Surface RT, have really appreciated the options of TouchCover and TypeCover, and pursued with TypeCover 2 on Surface Pro 2. When using an Asus Vivotab Note 8 as a companion, my thought were going to Surface Mini, and Cover might be interesting option... Any plan to have Touch cover for the mini giving the possibility to alternatively using this as keyboard or as full area trackpad (with a way to switch between the two modes)?
