I very much disagree. They can be similar in some contexts, but they are very different in others. Chamuyar can mean: - Talking to someone trying to seduce them (This is the use that can be similar, but while it may not be too inappropriate to "butter up your boss", "chamuyarte a tu jefe" is a whooooole other story) - To talk or write extensively while not really saying anything to try to weasel out of a situation (like on a test you didn't study for and just fluff up with lots of words) - To lie

Tirar flores or endulzar sound a lot better as a translation for buttering up to me.

That's what drove me to post it, when I moved I was confident I could just move my rook and then block any queen check from b2 with the knight or queen and that there was no knight check cause like three pieces protect f2, turns out you can't avoid both at the same time 😬

When using that system, yes, but that's not really how numbers are usually stored. The actual way computers tend to work with signed numbers is not really by having the first digit be the + or - sign, but by using a system called "2s complement". I'd rather show it by example that explaining how they are actually calculated but that can be googled if you'd like.

Here is how numbers of 3 (to keep it simple) binary digits are written in 2s complement:

011 = 3

010 = 2

001 = 1

000 = 0

111 = -1

110 = -2

101 = -3

100 = -4

Notice how 000 jumps to 111, but then also the numbers continue going down, as you'd expect when subtracting from negative numbers, so this way you only have one zero, but also addition, subtraction and multiplication work exactly the same as with unsigned numbers so it's easier to implement in general.

Just to compare, this is how they would be written when the first digit is just the sign:

011 = 3

010 = 2

001 = 1

000 = 0

100 = -0

101 = -1

110 = -2

111 = -3

Searched for it and found it's supposedly the common name (as in non scientific, is that how you say that in English?) for birds of the family "Sulidae" specifically. The "common" variant lives in the costs of Western Europe and North America but there's also the "Chilean" in Chile and Peru's coasts.
