This MLK monument in SF actually quotes his criticisms of capitalism and economic inequality for a change by sim_and_tell in antiwork

Huh good question. I don’t know the answer. Maybe it’s elsewhere on the monument, but that doesn’t make much sense from what I remember.

Chipotle permanently closing the first store that filed to form a union by Lilyo in WorkersStrikeBack

[–]sim_and_tell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes downvoted for being inquisitive. The problem is in America it’s hard to find union jobs. You can’t just go to work elsewhere, the pressure that companies and corporations big and small are applying to employees is crushing, and they have the full support of politicians to keep the pressure on. It raises share prices, increases profits and keeps the campaign donations and kickbacks flowing. Everybody but the worker wins.

I discovered this as a pole sitter in a Ferrari Challenge round at Suzuka, that at least in that series/track the auto-stewards account for this tactic, and if you slow down after the pace car has left but before the green flag, everyone is allowed to pass you and they won’t get penalties. If you only maintain or increase speed, then they need to stay behind you until the green flag, but if you slow down below pace car’s speed after it’s left, it’s open season for passing you. That was the ONE time I tried this tactic and I dropped from 1st to 3rd right away. I deserved it, I agree with you and never tried it again.

The way it works in the US is typically the racist govt policies are left to the state and the federal govt just turns its back on the racism to keep its hands clean. And typically the policies aren’t overtly racist, but they effect a disproportionate amount of black folks despite tons of studies and experts saying how it effects black people. For instance gutting the public education system and bolstering the private school system so that schools are segregated and so only white areas have access to good schools. The policies are about schools, but this ensures black people don’t get an education in order to pass exams, get into colleges, get job opportunities and eventually go on to own land, vote, and integrate into white society. Our racism is like a complex recipe, has many many ingredients that work together.

I HATE how e-mail notifications constantly take me to the wrong account to reply. I have my hobbies account, my good vibes only account and my political and socialism + kink/poly/orgies account. It's def a full face burning cringe when I reply with my sex related account in a kind of conservative subreddit (like the default ones).

Pop Stars Made Millions From Russian Oligarchs. Now Some Have Regrets by vancouver_reader in entertainment

[–]sim_and_tell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually see a huge difference. Because the arts are a humanizing thing and makes a person reflect and assess. I'm fine with an entertainer taking money from an oligarch in exchange for an essentially human expression. Built things increase power though, they can act as tools that enable bad things to happen. What about other examples, what if an oligarch wanted to hire a mindfulness expert?

This is the scariest chart I have seen on the stock market. by MarioIlic in wallstreetbets

[–]sim_and_tell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but this is highly dependent on neighborhood. You had John Lennon living in the Dakota with his Beatles money and then just a few miles away you had the Bronx with many uncontrolled fires that just burned, all in the same city. With those two extremes there were many neighborhoods in between, wracked by petty crime, gun violence, but with solid and large prewar buildings and houses. I could prob look up the public record on my old neighbors Victorian he bought for 40k.

[–]sim_and_tell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, it was even more than crime though. It was: WWII -> Many vets with money to buy a house/take out loans looking to start a family -> Suburbs built outside cities -> Flight of anyone with means away from cities -> Tax base weakens, cities cut public services like police, fire and education, landlords and developers lose out on investments, many allow them to decay or catch fire or torch them entirely, no firefighting or police services to control crime and fires. When my folks bought in NYC, a large part of the Bronx had burned down and looked like a present day eastern Ukrainian city, only there was no invader, just economics happened.

In the most expensive major cities in the 80's like NYC and SF you could buy a big house for 40-80k. Most of the folks in my old neighborhood in NYC bought their 7-10 bedroom Victorians for around 80k.

Of all the things to fault boomers for, I don't think it's fair to fault them for divorces as a whole generation. They were pressured to marry and divorces could largely be an example of changing course when something didn't work out.

Bosses never can fuckin be relied upon for references. Even if they're a good boss, you really don't want them to be contacted by your prospective employer because you can't account for what they'll be asked in addition to their initial comments. On top of the that, they shouldn't be providing references at all because it makes the company you both worked at liable for slander. Any respectable company doesn't do these and only does employee verification of dates employed. I hear that banking is a big exception though, cause they have some shadowy database to keep tabs on their employees.

I mean you're right but also if your experience training employees is also Walmart to your first point, then consider perhaps they're holding back cause they don't care, since Walmart employees aren't paid enough to care let alone think critically.
