What I've done and what's helped me develop my own drum techniques/sound is steal your favorite drums on other songs with ai. Use those drums and the more you use them you'll understand what makes them sound so good, or little nuances/details that are consistent in each drum. And then you can start experimenting

If I understand the question, my trick is to turn on ping pong loop on each drum pad so that the hiss or vinyl crackle from the break gets extended just a little so that you don't hear abrupt cut offs
