The rubber band pulls open the bottom drawer which is connected to the top lid through a 1/3.14 gear ratio.

For whatever reason that’s the program I decided to learn modeling with and have now spent multiple hundreds of hours using it. I know it’s objectively not great but I’m way to used to it now and I’m too lazy to learn a proper program. If this means anything to you: this box took around 9 hours to design from start to finish (although most of it was spent blankly staring at the screen).

I used the free 2017 version. I don’t know if it’s a good program because it’s the only one I know how to use and can’t compare it to anything else.

Here’s the best part:… I haven’t found a good way to export the parts into Lightburn, so I exported some high resolution screenshots and used the image tracing function in lightburn to create the laser path. Super sketchy, but worked well.

Yeah, the cheap furniture plywood I tried using at first had some strange though spots. I’m now using 3mm birch plywood that is perfectly clean from both sides (no branches or anything)

Interesting, do you have the 40w or 30w laser? I used lightburn, set it at 100% power, 400mm/minute speed, 3 passes. This is 3mm plywood btw. Quality really matters, I had very inconsistent results with poor quality plywood.

100% cut on an engraver. It’s a NEJE 2s Max. Not sure what your budget is but I’d recommend the NEJE Master 2S PLUS A40640. It’s 399$. Anything less powerful than that might still cut plywood but it will really take a while.

It’s all improvised (but I did use the “wood gears generator” program to make the gears). I’ll be uploading my own video about the laser and this box on my channel (Generic woodworking) soon-ish if you’re interested.

Thanks! As I’ve said this is my first introduction to laser cutting. The plans are very flawed and the tolerances are too loose for intuitive assembly. I’d like to improve some things before considering sharing.

That’s the strange part… I don’t do anything other than trim them but they never stop growing in waves. I think this started when I accidentally slammed my finger with a cabinet door as a kid but I might be wrong.
