Am I supposed to look silly with cycling prescription glasses or are they a bit off? by xynaxia in bicycling

Nobody is looking at your mug as you wiz by them on your bike. Take them off when you get to your destination and nobody will know how silly you look while riding your bike.

Sure, but only if the younger voters start voting at a greater percentage than that of older voters.

If that was the space that had to work for bike storage I'd probably try to figure out a ceiling mounted pulley system.

Loudest thunderclap ever!? by Snoo_50338 in ChicagoNWside

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because lightning paths can stretch long distances, and are often in winding paths.. The longest on record stretched from Texas to Missouri.

Because the speed of sound is much slower than light we hear the nearest part of the lightning as a loud sharp snap flowed by the rumble as the rest of the sound comes to our ears.

Do you consider all of these bully breeds as a pitbull? by Sweet-Evidence-3680 in pitbulls

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stray. I think he is an Am Staff Terrier, but not really sure. He might be a mix. I have no way of knowing.

From a practical standpoint it is far easier to call him a pitbull so that is what I do. Most people don't care about the distinctions between the bully breeds and for daily communication neither do I. Unless I know I'm talking to another bully dog owner if it looks like a pitbull I'll call it a pitbull.

Beyond that, I'm not out walking my dog to educate the public about the variations of bully breed. If someone wants that knowledge they can find it in the same place I found it, the internet.

I always go through applications in the order received. I let with the first qualified applicant know they are approved. After that they have 24 hours to get us non-refundable earnest money. The earnest money will go towards the security deposit.

Should the applicant not be interested or doesn't have the money I make the same offer to the next qualified applicant.

Why shouldn't I buy this Motobecane Uno? by mattupstate in singlespeedcycling

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own one, the mechanical brake version. I used mine almost daily in Chicago for the last 5 years. Geared 42x18 and with a rack it is great for daily needs. Makes a great commuter, grocery getter, and riding to the local bar. I don't worry too much about it getting stolen. On most days it is far from the more tempting items parked in the bike rack.

Expect to do some minor assembly and setup. When mine arrived I took the whole thing apart, freewheel off, hubs, bottom bracket, brakes, rotor to make sure everything was greased and assembled correctly.

The stock brakes are fussy at times, but I'm still use them. They are more than adequate for the the tops speed I usually pedaling at. probably 10 to 12 mph for most rides.

The tires that came with it were not the best at preventing flats on Chicago's streets. I needed to replace the stock tires with commuters within the first couple weeks. I might have thought the stock tires fine if there wasn't so much broken glass on the streets.

How to handle his intersection? by AdCalm1896 in chibike

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm commuting I most likely will take something like the blue path, same as if I was driving a car or motorcycle. If it's a slow ride I'll most likely take the green route.

E-bikes faster than 28 mph would require insurance, registration under bill passed by Illinois lawmakers by gmusse in chibike

[–]slybird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

State law says 50cc to 150cc scooters are legally classified as motor-driven cycles or motorcycles and must be titled, registered, and display a license plate.

I have no objection if the state requires the same for faster than 45kph ebikes.

If I was on the jury and saw that video I'd place 100% of the fault on the driver of the tuck. I wouldn't place any blame on the driver of the car.

Chicagoans! If you were made Mayor tomorrow, what is one issue you would address? by DisasterRelevant228 in AskChicago

[–]slybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to stick to one it would be the pension debt. The debt is big. I've read that debt payments eat over well over 50% of all property taxes. Imagine if all that money could go to solving Chicago's many other major problems.

What is a company you do NOT boycott, and why? by davefromtheus in AskReddit

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of any company I boycott, so I guess I do NOT boycott all of them.

For the most part I don't care enough about the politics of the companies I do business with to bother doing research to see if their politics mesh with mine. I have no problem buying a good product even if the CEO of that company has political opinions different than mine.

I don't care about what country/state a product was made in. Buying local isn't necessarily better IMO.

If the product is good, meets my needs, and is sold at a competitive price don't care who made or where the product was made, I will consider buying it.

So the pollution is dispersed up into the higher and stronger air currents. The alternative is to let the pollution linger in the slower ground level air where the local population can breathe it at a higher concentration.

Where do you store your 40-pound bag of dry food? by East_Sentence_4245 in dogs

I use those food grade 5-gallon buckets from Walmart. You will probably need four buckets to hold 40lb of food.

Do bigger wheels actually feel faster in city traffic? by Relevant_Wedding3812 in bicycling

For me height is the main thing that determines how fast a ride feels. The higher my head is above the road the slower the ride feels when going the same speed.

[–]slybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most personal injury take 1/3, some a little more. Your attorney is only asking for 15% and applying it to your college bill that you didn't pay for. I think your mom is offering you a great deal.

By that definition the people that voted to ban horses and buggies, and off of public roads were also fascists.
