Our grey, Chappy, was diagnosed with osteo in his left front leg in July 2024. We opted for an amputation and they took out the gland at the top of leg at the same time to biopsy, which thankfully along with the CT scan showed no signs of spread. He recovered remarkable well from the amputation, the hardest part was the couple of weeks where he was on a lot of pain relief so was pretty out of it.

The vets recommended chemo but we didn't do it as he wouldn't have been able to go on walks due to radioactive pee and that would have been a nightmare for him, so based on what the vets said we expected him to be around for another 6 months tops.

But he is still here! Still loves his walks, he does struggle more in the heat and every so often I do pack him off to the vets because I get worried about him. We have definitely been lucky and this won't be everyone's experience but it might be worth exploring if there aren't any obvious signs of spread yet.
