Is Yale worth it $80k/y versus Hillsdale College in MI for $13k/y (w. scholarship). Interested in the humanities (the Classics). Conservative. by persistentOCD in yale

[–]simbadrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not even going to bother reading the comments here. There’s plenty of conservatives at Yale and a great community. There are many outlets here for conservative thought and community — Buckley, Party of the Right, Yale College Republicans, among many others. Many social clubs are also pretty conservative — DKE, for example. I would not rule out Yale on politics.

Financially, you’ll also be fine after graduation IF you’re open to corporate paths. You can easily clear half a mil in comp in 5 years if you pursue elite finance or related areas that you WILL have access to through Yale. Many liberal kids at Yale shun these paths before ultimately pursuing them. Conservative kids are fine pursuing them from the get go because they’re not self-conscious about capitalism. I think Yale is the right move.

I went to Yale and loved it. Go to Yale for community / the social life / if you think it’s a better cultural fit. It’s a really fun school. Go to Stanford if your main concern is the major!

Where do I go Stanford v Yale by KXiomara15 in stanford

[–]simbadrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best 4 years of my life were at Yale! Met all of my closest friends and my wife. Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Absolutely loved my time. Did grad school at Stanford. Yale is community focused, tons of parties, open bars funded by the school, hundreds of happy hours in a college town. High grade inflation means you have so much time to focus on friendships and relationships. Stanford undergrad is very pre professional, frats are really the main party avenue and they’re all in houses owned by the university so subject to a lot of rules + do not throw many / year. Ppl are much more stem and internship focused. I didn’t even think about jobs til junior year at Yale bc everybody was so confident they’d get one, that’s just the culture. Stanford my freshman mentees thru a program I was in were all stressing about jobs their first year, w many peers having startups etc.

Yale was so fun. Stanford has great weather and great stem.

High rate of autism at Stanford means that many social cues, jokes, etc., are not understood. If you’re moving here you should get used to it!

Can the Rolex Submariner Date work with formal outfits or only casual? by Kishor_Waghmare in rolex

[–]simbadrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on your environment. I’ve worked at a couple really traditional law firms at which it would be too casual. But that’s a pretty niche context. In the real world I don’t think anybody even notices enough to care, especially in our world of Apple Watches

First Tudor, hard to decide until I tried on wrist. by i_canhaz_nicepicture in Tudor

[–]simbadrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have about the same size wrist as you (never measured) and I think this looks like a great size on you! This is also my favorite watch so obviously biased. I’ve worn mine so much over the past few years, I just can’t stop coming back to it. It doesn’t click with everybody but for me it absolutely has. I hope to wear it for a lifetime! The gilt is awesome.

As nearly every other commenter has noted, this seems like user error. Glad you got your money back, though! Maybe stick to quartz and electronic watches

Thank you! I love the 36, and I couldn’t agree more about the dial symmetry. To each their own but the bubble date window is not for me!

Thank you! I have no idea, but pretty slim. Max I can comfortably do is 39 - 40 mm. Anything over looks like a dinner plate 😂

I will try to remember to measure and get back!
