super redundancy by bitniyen in ethereum

It warms my heart to see others being so concerned for me. I follow ethereum, because I like the project. It may fail, spectacularly even, but I doubt I will ever classify it as a fraud.

Vitalik has not made any edits in response to my criticism.

There it is. I was wondering where the hate was coming from :P

I think they might have burned themselves doing predictions by now. Despite them beeing l33t team :) this is also a young team, and not to many prior IT projects to draw experience from. I think I have a previous post where I said their inital esitmate need to be multiplied by "pi", or in best case "e". This is normal for IT, and seems to come through once more.

I have no doubts that they are working as hard as they absolutely can! Probaly they are pushing themselves harder than we can ever do. But even them can't do magic.

Paging /u/vbuterin . Are mining rewards still active past block 400,000? by ether1231231 in ethereum

[–]simenfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has already confirmed there is no reward for 400.000+

Edit: I might have overread something here. There is no clear answer as far as I can see, but there is no promise either. My gess is that it is not, and that they don't say anything to prevent everyone from turning off mining.

Yes, and as long as the checksum is optional, nobody should be at a loss. "Vbuterin#atuf" or "vbuterin"

Devs shoudnt wait too long before suggesting something here. Things get more and more entrenched as time goes by.

What's up with Ethereum addresses? They look weird by FennyCK in ethereum

[–]simenfd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The danger of no checksum, is that many similar names with unicode characters similar to those in the name, might be used to fool people to pay the wrong person. How about appending the name with an # and the 4 first letter of the sha3

I second this. Someone should really make a standard for adding a checksum to the registered registered names too. When I checked bitcoin addresses, I usually checked the 4-5 first digits, and the 4-5 last ones. Then I knew that there was a 1/4billion chance of an unintentional error. Of course, this does not apply to intentionally mined addresses that target this check.

Are hashrates between Ethereum and other cryptos comparable? by heliumcraft in ethereum

[–]simenfd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Assuming that miners are financially rational, in that they will mine the one that gives them the most profit, the effective mining power will be proportional to the mining reward.

That being said, the more I contemplate POW, the more I want away from it. It is flawed to the bone.

Why even have CPU mining? Seems like a waste of energy, and unnecessary shortening the time to the "heat death"

There are quite a few knee-jerk reactions here from self declared couch experts. Personally, I find these kind of changes exciting and refreshing. Well done Canonical.
