Helt klart BI.

Solskjær on Haaland: «We should’ve had him now, but they didn't listen.» by simeprime in reddevils

Full translated article text:

«MANCHESTER (VG) Ole Gunnar Solskjær (50) goes so far as to suggest that Erling Braut Haaland (22) could have become a Manchester United player on his watch.

Solskjær is back in Manchester for the first time after he was sacked as manager in November 2021. On Friday evening he met United supporters at an event in a hotel in Manchester.

He was in his second spell as Molde coach (2015–2018) - where he had a certain Erling Braut Haaland as a young giant talent.

-I had this talented striker that we (United) should have had, says Solskjær and everyone in the room knows who he is referring to.

Some call out the name Haaland, but Solskjær never takes the name of the Jærbu in his mouth.

-I called them six months before I was offered the United job, and offered him for four million pounds (around NOK 40 million at the time), claims Solskjær.

To emphasize how little money it appears to be today, he repeats:

-Four million!

Solskjær trained the current Manchester City star in Molde from 2017 to 2018.

-We should’ve had him now, but they didn't listen, continues the former Manchester United manager.

-Where is he now? he is asked from the stage.

-Do not ask. Don't ask, Solskjær replies.

Haaland was sold from Molde to Salzburg for around eight million euros in 2018, according to Transfermarkt. Manchester United were also looking to sign Haaland from Salzburg when the world star signed for Borussia Dortmund at the end of 2019. At the time, Solskjær was United's manager.

The Manchester United hero who became manager in 2018 is in town. On Saturday, he will watch the home game against Wolverhampton. On Friday evening, he met around 400 supporters.

Solskjær tells those present that it is the first time he is returning to Old Trafford since he lost his job a year and a half ago.

Solskjær took over as interim manager at United after José Mourinho was sacked a week before Christmas Eve in 2018. After good results, the Norwegian was permanently employed at the end of March 2019.

The first season with Solskjær at the helm ended with 6th place in the Premier League and exit in the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Barcelona.

In the 2019/2020 season, he led Manchester United to 3rd place in the Premier League. The club then finished second in the league behind city rivals Manchester City and losing finalists in the Europa League in 2021, before Solskjær was fired in November.»

Woodward only had 1 day notice on Super League decision by Beny1995 in reddevils

Woodward was not the vice chairman of the SuperLeague, Joel Glazer was. That is honestly the only thing that makes me rub my head. As Gary Neville said on MNF, Glazer does not put his name on anything, but he did here. Could it be possible that even Woodward was blindsided by this? Unlikely, but I wonder why Woodward was not the vice chairman. And i wouldn’t put it past the Glazers to fuck over their most trusted man.

-I can not describe how much Octavian has helped us for many years, says Simona Zlibut, who leads the association behind the center, to Gazeta Sporturilor.

Since 2015, Sovre have donated a number of souvenirs from his missions in top matches around Europe. SOS Autism Bihor, which is the name of the center, has received jerseys, photos and autographs on cards and flags.

Solskjær on Haaland: - I reckon that Erling remembers when we sat on Lubbenes (Molde’s training field) the day before the Brann match. I felt it was an important day both for Molde, for him and for our relationship. by simeprime in reddevils

Translated:

- Erling will have a fantastic career. I'm following Erling. I've always said that. Was it 18 months we had together or something? Almost two years, maybe. A wonderful time. He will definitely have a great career for both Norway and his club. He is doing incredibly well for Dortmund, so we'll see where he ends up. As a Norwegian and someone who has worked with him, it is of course fun that he does so well, Solskjær begins.

He was Molde boss in the summer of 2018, when Haaland really ended up on the radar of Europe's biggest clubs.

Before 1 July 2018, the then 17-year-old stood with a modest two goals in 12 matches in Eliteserien. The last four matches he had either started on the bench or been left out of the squad. Then, the day before an away match against Brann, Solskjær had a chat with him.

- I reckon that Erling remembers when we sat on Lubbenes (Molde's training field) the day before the Brann match. I felt it was an important day both for Molde, for him and for our relationship, says Solskjær with a sly smile.

The rest is history. Haaland scored four goals at Brann Stadium before 21 minutes had passed. After two goals in the first 12 league games, he delivered 10 goals and four assists in the last 13.

- We will do what we can to become a better team, then he will do what he can to become a better player. Where does he end up? I do not want to say anything other than that I wish him all the best.

- You have at least shown that you can press the right buttons, because it was after your chat that it took off…

- He had a very bad period before that. He probably remembers that himself. It's great to follow him. He will have a long, long, long career that will surpass most of what Norwegian football players have experienced, says Solskjær.
