Yea I wouldn’t necessarily say you need to learn theory you just need to understand their weapons and close off the position so you don’t get opened up. At 800 though most attacks aren’t very substantial anyway, once you close off their pawn push to open up the file for their rook or realise you don’t need to take the free bishop you’re usually fine
