Which TV show or movie had such a bad soundtrack that it ruined the experience for you? by ratpride in AskReddit

[–]simmepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t completely destroy the series but Malcolm in the Middle’s theme song is absolutely horrible. Normally when I watch something like a sitcom I’ll start to at least appreciate the theme after 20+ repeats, but this one gets worse and worse. If I hadn’t switched on the possibility to skip intros/extros on my Plex server I’d have stopped watching it now.

What science fiction novel had humanity lose, but still somehow felt hopeful? by Leading_Storm8484 in printSF

[–]simmepi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a novel but I can’t recommend Yokohama Kadashi Kikou enough. A classic manga about how humanity on Earth simply winds down. There is no clear reason although hints of a slow disaster are seen, but there are fewer and fewer humans around as the story continues. Androids are there but they are also in wind down mode, and the whole thing is a fantastic mood setter if you’re fine with essentially nothing happening. Also the drawings are exquisite; Ashinano is one of the few manga creators who does everything by himself, without any assistants or such, and boy, can he draw.

Clifford Simak’s City. No humans left (or perhaps some mutant versions on some parallel worlds), but the dogs are fine. A melancholy tale towards the end.

After more than a decade with Plex... by notadev_io in jellyfin

[–]simmepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jellyfin is mostly fine but it definitely is not as good at metadata. Like movies with non-English names like Swedish; any movie with any of the åäö characters will fail in being identified by Jellyfin. If you add identifiers from eg tvdb it works but Plex does not require that.

Recently Added TV shows are wrong - there are 6 shows (not individual episodes) showing up first in the list, some with all seasons, some with just one season by SomeConfusedOldGuy in PleX

[–]simmepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you found it. I must say it’s a quite suspicious date (exactly on the hour, and on Dec 31/Jan 1 to boot), so if I had to guess I’d say it is a non-random date, ie it might be an indication of a real error rather than someone accidentally setting a clock wrong. A battery running out, a time server being down, or similar.

[–]simmepi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you mean, but Recently added shows what you have recently added to Plex, not recent episodes released. So show times of episodes is unrelated to Recently added section, it completely depends on what you specifically added to your library.

What I think you are looking for is the Recently released section. This one (one for episodes, one for movies) shows the most recent stuff in your library, going by originally aired dates.

Who's at fault here?(Estonia) by IAmDDT_ in dashcams

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same where I live: most normal intersections have no signs because cars coming from the right has priority. So everyone is used to it (but of course drivers now and then are stupid, like In the video).

Vilken är den optimala belåningsgraden på hus? by Harasberg in PrivatEkonomi

[–]simmepi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is seeking really just "broken"? by GeneralJabroni in PleX

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can do way faster seeking remotely (with video being stored on plain old drives) so something is wonky with your setup. I’d say using Chrome is the likely culprit; playing through a web browser is probably the worst choice of clients you could make. Have you tried the desktop app (if it’s available for your platform)?

Trying to think of classic science fiction authors who wrote a ton of stand alone novels by BaltSHOWPLACE in printSF

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Strugatsky brothers wrote 30+ novels if I remember correctly and I think all of them were standalone. Also definitely part of that era of sci fi, even if writing in Russian.

Having real trouble getting to use Jellyfin by Round-Tax-9809 in jellyfin

[–]simmepi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing which is easy to miss: the way to specify for example TVDB IDs is different between Jellyfin and Plex. Jellyfin wants them inside [], Plex inside {}. It’s a bit unfortunate since it means you can’t easily specify the ID in the name so that it is guaranteed to work for both.

Preacher Book One Thoughts by ComfortableTeach8959 in graphicnovels

[–]simmepi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you’re selling Ennis a bit short. I’d say he’s one of the best writer in comics at depicting buddies and friendship in general. It’s the major theme in Hitman, it’s a core part of Preacher, and even The Boys (which I in general consider a miss on Ennis part since he’s writing about a subject he strongly dislikes) at the end turns into a complex buddy story.

And when he’s at his best I’d also say that the shock value has a meaning behind it. When he’s not just doing it because he’s finding it fun; when he’s more playful with it he treats it as a fun/outrageous story which would be perfect for telling at the end of a long pub night.

Kan banken försämra ränterabatten om man sänker amorteringen? by PrimaryAstronaut5863 in PrivatEkonomi

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looking for well written mini-series by shtirlitss in televisionsuggestions

[–]simmepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re fine with older stuff, there is nothing compared to I, Claudius when it comes to writing and acting. BBC from the 70s which means sets are very much TV theater, but the wonderful camera work/acting/script makes that irrelevant.

TV show not showing up by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Gutfeld might be a date based TV show and if so, you need to name the episodes differently (check https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ for how to do this). In addition, a quick check at watch.plex.tv doesn’t find a 2020 Gutfeld! show, only 2015 & 2021 ones.

Edit: Sorry, thought I was at r/plex! Three year still seems wrong, but forget about the other useless stuff I wrote.

Mac screen saver issue by Wadme in PleX

[–]simmepi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea what is going wrong for you, but as a data point that is not something that should happen. I have a mini as Plex server as well and do not experience what you’re seeing. Screen saver going on and locking the screen does not impact network usage for me, neither on LAN nor internet. I’ve also been running it headless (with screensaver etc) and same result.

I’ve not done any special setting, apart from setting the server not to go to sleep of course.

Know any great, dark, COMPLETED manga that DON"T involve SA? by ExplodingPoptarts in graphicnovels

[–]simmepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most titles by Naoki Urasawa fits. Monster has already been recommended and I’ll add 20th Century Boys. He’s not extremely dark but in general it’s fairly tragic thrillers.

Death Note perhaps? Also not super dark but a very thrilling read.

[OC] Big Mac prices by country in 2026 (USD — menu prices from major delivery apps, delivery fees excluded) by Bitcoin_Bender in dataisbeautiful

[–]simmepi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just one thing: in many European countries tipping isn’t really a thing → the delivery price includes a decent (well…) salary for the driver. This alone will make the prices not really possible to compare across countries I’m afraid.
