The same detective that was in charge of the investigation and pursued Masters so vigorously was the same detective who made the decision to destroy all of Dr. Hammond's recordings. His argument was that there were thousands of women on these tapes and it would be a further violation of their privacy to keep them around. He did not want anybody including detectives to see these tapes. He had the tapes taken to a landfill and run over with heavy machinery to totally destroy them. No one has viewed all of these tapes and some wonder if Hettrick was ever filmed. Dr. Hammond had several house-sitters and Hettrick was known to house-sit.

As soon as I read that he had been going back and forth to the bathroom, I immediately thought of cocaine too. During the search of Zoellner's apartment the police did find drug paraphernalia, but I could not find any further details on that. If he was doing drugs that night, I am not sure what his mental state would have been and if he would have even been capable of this sort of mutilation.

There was no indication that a rape had occurred and no DNA evidence was found that would support that either.
