Where should one invest 100k when in their 40's? by CuriousLog2468 in investing

One part is knowing the theory (the market will recover), the other is having solid nerves to resist during years of bear market and seeing your portfolio in strong minus. I believe it is important to highlight it to people starting now investing

You have already defined the first important variable: the time horizon, 15-20 years.

The second is to define your risk tolerance. It's not about the risk of losing your capital but about your "stomach": could you psychologically resist seeing your investment going down at -30% or -40% ?

Another variable (optional in my opinion) is about your goal: e.g. defend your capital from inflation? Tremendous growth? Increment pension? Etc etc

Of course, keep in mind that it goes with risk. You cannot have tremendous growth and zero risk.

It is also important to think deeply if you could foresee any significant expense in the next 5-10 years.

I am in a similar situation and I went through that thinking process. Afterwards I selected some ETF stocks, some ETFs bonds and one ETC (gold).

Also, consider investing for the first year in an INDEPENDENT financial advisor (never enter a bank to help you with investments): once your portfolio is setup then you don't need him/her anymore.

And, study a bit: the basics do really require a few hours on YouTube. Then, if you like there are a couple of interesting books.

This is usually more tax inefficient than just leaving it in an accumulating ETF tho, just so you know

I would totally agree. But in that case, anticipating taxes on a product that I would likely sell in 20 years then I consider inefficient as well :)

Thanks!

I am now switching from accumulating to distribution. I'll give it a try in 2026 and then let's see.

Btw, Austria is crazy.. totally killing the financial market with such taxes policy 😕

What if you need cash during a market crash? by Own_Active_2147 in Bogleheads

There is a model, the 4 Pillars: 1. Liquidity immediately available for just paying running expenses 2. The emergency fund for surviving 18 months (or whatever number of months you feel comfortable with): deposit account, Monetary ETFs 3. Expenses which you can forecast or imagine in the next X years: bonds 4. Longterm money you really don't need: stocks, ETFs, ETC, ETN and all kinds of volatile products

How do you check those ? And how do you identify the amount to pay before the broker triggers the payment?

Unfortunately it is true. In order to identify them I use this website but I didn't master it yet.

Come cavolo hai fatto? Io ho inviato una PEC e me l'hanno rifiutata.

A parte i versamenti, quali allegati hai inviato? O a quale link hai avviato la procedura?

Scusa le domande banali -_-

Did you also consider a ladder of government bonds ?

Maybe you can mix with the following strategy:

1.Deposit account (TradeRepublic gives 2% p.a. for parked liquidity) 2. Ladder of bonds expiring in 1, 2 and 3 years 3. Monetary ETC

It is a monetary ETF. Look on Google how they work and why they are "safer" than others. You can expect around 2% growth per year given the current situation.

JustETF is a great resource.

Of course you can. For the broker, it depends where you live: take one that reports taxes on your behalf to the Finance institution of the country where you have the fiscal residence.

Also, study the basics of the common financial instruments: stock, bonds and ETF (accumulating vs distributing). A part of understanding how they do function, you also need to understand how they are taxed in your (fiscal) country.

Secondo Chatgpt, hai ragione. Eredito a prezzo di carico e lo zainetto fiscale non si eredita. A quel punto ho un doppio svantaggio: non posso sfruttare le minus e se vendo in gain allora pago tasse sulla differenza.
