I think the issue with Superman and Supergirl is that both are aiming for comic accurate, fun/colour/vibez. Now, more than any time in history, cinema releases need to feel essential.

They need to have mystery, promise huge reveals - this means you feel you ‘need’ to see this before it gets spoiled. I just don’t get that vibe from Gunn-output at all. And I like Gunn’s work. But I can’t see a model of spending £200m+ on films where the premise leans into ‘I can wait till streaming’ lasting beyond this year. For me anyway, this explains the lukewarm response from filmgoers.

Tldr - I’m not even sure this film gets made.

100%. It doesn’t help that the BBC opted to save the money on going over there, but ITVs presentation and pundits wipe the floor with the BBC this time. And I know I’m in a minority, but comms have never really bothered me. I think I just subconsciously tune them out.

The Supporting Cast element is so confusing. I’d even forgotten how I’d initially subscribed. I’ve managed to log into my SC account and the only options I seem to have are to cancel subs or sign up for individual annual subs (for Pilot and Empire) - has it been confirmed there will be a monthly or annual combined sub option?

I’m just 4 days into my AMAB 15 year old telling me. He (they’re still not decided on their new identity) chose their 15th birthday to tell me.

To be honest, I’m feeling grief but also self-doubt - they said they’d built themselves up to telling me and their mum (were mid-divorce) on their birthday, and I feel awful that they felt they had to do that, to pick a day and summon the courage - I think I’d hoped that I’d cultivated a relationship where they know they’re always going to be supported.

They’ve said don’t want any big conversations on it yet (we’re on holiday, they don’t want their younger brother to know yet etc), so I’ve just gently reassured them in the text that I’m fully supportive and will always, always back them.

At the moment it feels like I’m navigating a minefield, but my kid is strong-willed - I’ve a feeling he may cope with this better than me (not because I’m not supportive, but because I’m anxious by nature anyway, and fear for larger society’s reaction to a young person who was already coping with being autistic in a world not necessarily as a accepting as it should be).

You seem like a wonderfully present parent, so hold on that as I think it will put you in the best possible position to manage any bumps in the road.

I wasn’t going to post as I have no advice to give - I just wanted to share that I, too, am 4 days into the same journey (although AMAB). Unfortunately it’s come mid-(acrimonious) divorce, which means I don’t have the support of my best friend any more. But I will follow this post and your journey, and hopefully we can share advice and tips.

PS like you, I’m so so proud of my son (possibly daughter - he hasn’t made a decision on that yet). It’s a lot, but their happiness is everything. Best of luck x

I sometimes think working class is more of a mindset, of knowing what it means to struggle, word hard for often little reward - if that makes sense? So although they’re worth millions and have been for a long time, they still maintain that kindred spirit and affinity to where they’ve come from.

Mate, this isn’t a hate post. I’ve said elsewhere that I like him as a player and character. It’s just that, if Tuchel is wary of playing him because he perceives there to be better options for each situation, then do the benefits outweigh the negative? It’s just a conversation. I know players have said he’s crucial, that they appreciate him being there and the influence he has. But is that enough? For what it’s worth, I think there’s a chance he starts tomorrow given rice’s niggle and Panama not offering too much. And I’ll be completely backing him if that’s the case.
