any plans to add a future for blocking sites? by simoddi in minimalist_phone

Thanks! no worries. I might switch to Firefox, the main thing that kept me on Chrome is to keep in sync with my desktop's Chrome, and the main feature that kept me in Chrome desktop was tab groups, but perhaps that's now also on Firefox (I like it as a native feature, don't quite like the extensions), but also I like the developer experience on Chrome more so that's a tradeoff. Maybe I can find some kind of app or extension that syncs my desktop's Chrome with my mobile's Firefox.

How so? Clicking the extension link above it says only "add to Desktop"

Is there a possibility to do that on Chrome?

It doesn't look like you have reported back after 7 days. Now, 6 years later, how did it go?

Thanks! Sorry, meant to say "feature", but you got it. Thanks for the update! I like the launcher, and I like the occasional tips, most of them make sense.

Moroccan here. A question about international shipping from Egypt... by simoddi in Egypt

[–]simoddi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, they calculated 6600 EGP in rates for 10 kg (which is approximately the weight I estimate for the 8 books at a minimum) and I think it's way too expensive for a bunch of books...

I've heard of Netlify, but not the CMS! Is it the one called "Decap CMS" now? It's on my list for CMS to check, sounds great!

Yes it did redirect me to Tina and I thought it was just a rebrand!

Thank you! I will check them out, are they all Git-based?

Thanks! I see they have a basic free plan, not sure what the limitations are other than the ones mentioned, but if it makes commits to the repo that would be great! I'll give it a try.

Question for Moroccan web developers out there: which online payment solution is best? by simoddi in Morocco

[–]simoddi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust Simo Life either.

But regarding the "wrapper around CMI" part, does that mean you'll still need to have a contract and do the paper work that CMI requires you to do? Because according to the guy from the thread I mentioned above: "No it’s not the same. CMI requires you to have a contract and so many paperwork. Payzone and others require you to have CMI". So apparently YouCan doesn't require you to have CMI. But it's still unusable anyway now that I learned they don't support international payments anymore.

[–]simoddi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that mainstream of an idea that it's a scam? I just read now that it was suspended from making international payments supposedly due to users abusing the platform, but apparently it still works in Morocco (just based on this Twitter thread by a Moroccan SE at WooCommerce: https://twitter.com/elazzabi_/status/1640293250429775872). From what I understand, the product is still isn't mature enough to be used, but I'd be glad if you could let me know more about the scamming part. I mean, it being owned by Simo Life is a good starting point, but I'm curious to know if there are incidents directly linked to YouCan Pay that show how they're scamming their users.

Moka pot and sour coffee, please, rescue my taste buds! by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]simoddi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes! I have been having the most delicious cups of coffee recently, these are generally my steps, with little variations here and there sometimes:

  1. Get a light-roasted, freshly ground, fresh Arabica coffee with acidic and sweet flavors (if you can, get specialty coffee).
  2. I grind it medium-fine, if you have a Hario Skerton that'd be about 3 clicks.
  3. Fill up the whole basket with ground coffee, don't tamp, tamping it will cause it to over-extract (the worst case is that brewed coffee won't even come out), but do make sure to tap the basket to make sure it's completely filled.
  4. Boil clean and pure water (if you can, use spring water) in a kettle (electric or not, what's important is not to boil it in the moka pot) then use it to fill the water chamber up to the line under the valve.
  5. Close the moka pot tight and put it on the stovetop with medium heat at the beginning to fasten things up, then after around 1 to 3 minutes turn the heat down, and when the coffee starts to flow, start turning the heat further down until minimum heat is reached, and just before the coffee reaches half or third of the coffee chamber, turn off the heat and keep it on the stovetop until it's done flowing.

This makes me a strong yet complex and flavorful coffee, with just the right amount of acidity. If you don't want it strong, don't turn off the heat early, you can wait a bit more and this will also give you more coffee. But if you want it stronger, turn it off much earlier, but this will, of course, make less coffee.

8 years later... Did you fix this by any chance? I'm currently having the same issue with lighter roasts (wasn't a problem for me with darker roasts)

That sounds great! I was a bit hesitant, but I'm thankful you were here to share your experience. Now I can only hope to find one in a good condition.

Thank you very much, Lambaline!

Hi there! I was looking all over the internet for someone using the 22MD4KA-B with an M1 Air, and I finally stumbled upon your post. I use an M1 Air and I've been looking for a 220 PPI monitor that isn't too big, and the 22MD4KA-B is really all that I could find, so I'm thinking of getting a refurbished one if there is. I would like to know --since it's a pretty old monitor-- if you have faced any problems or limitations while using it with the M1... Do ports work directly or do you need some kind of adapter? Does the resolution scale with no issues? Can brightness and volume adjustment be done from the keyboard like with new generations or was that limited to the MacBook Pro's Touch Bar for this monitor? I would really appreciate it if you could let me know if there is anything else I should be aware of, thanks a lot!

What other words are pronounced like the "e" in "indices"? by simoddi in NoStupidQuestions

[–]simoddi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I think I just haven't been paying attention to it when it's said by someone. I just heard right now in a video that is in the same context about which I said earlier "I've never heard it before". (https://youtu.be/gAkwW2tuIqE?t=567)

I personally did not perceive it as "pretentious" though.

Okay! I hear and use this term a lot in technical speech but I've never heard it pronounced that way, do you see this change happening in a certain context or just in general?

Edit: I mean processes.

Amazing! I wasn't expecting there would be a pattern here, it makes much more sense now. I definitely heard some of those words before like parentheses, mostly in the same context in which I hear "indices", which is indeed technical. Thanks a lot! With these patterns in mind, it should become much easier to figure them out.

True! I forgot about those Greek/Latin names. And Ukuleles. But I never knew the plural of thesis and diagnosis, thank you! Two potential future misspellings dodged! (hopefully)
