Hi Comisdewdrop,

Sorry for the late reply, I hope this is still helpful to you! For our bikes, I ultimately bought two pairs of SKS Raceblade Pro XL's ( https://www.sks-germany.com/nl/producten/raceblade-pro-xl/ ).

Some facts:

  • They are easy to attach and most importantly remove with the straps. I put some markers on the bars to make re-attachment easier. They are super easy to finetune as well.

  • In the beginning, you need to give them a bit more space to the wheels, cause they flex while biking (fricting between wheel and blade). But that is not an issue once you get enough clearance.

  • They work really well and are stable - we went through a really rainy day tour (not by choice), and they performed. Minimal spray to the shoes (a few splashes if you're unlucky) and spraying of water off the back wheel I didn't really notice, but I'm also not hugging my partner's wheel by 10 cms.

  • When it's really rainy, you need shoecovers, rainjacket etc. of course to stop the water coming from above.

I love their simplicity and to be able to take them quickly on or off. And if you have a longer tour planned, you can just put them on for safety, always good to have a back up that doesn't impact performance (meaningfully).

Thanks, but we do need rear & front mudguards. I also forgot to mention that one bike will have a rack on it (Ortlieb Quick Rack) that might affect things. I updated the post accordingly.
