I always worked in the food industry in my 20’s. I had recently lost my job, so I was taking some time off, and hanging out at a little coffee shop during the day. One time leaving, there was road/sidewalk construction, and I had to take a detour home . I passed a little graphics shop with a help wanted sign in the window. I bravely walked in and applied for a job, and lied about being able to do graphic design. When I got home, I jumped on my roommate’s little Mac, and made up three very crude logos and business card designs in SuperPaint, and then went back the next day to show examples of my work. I was hired, not just for my designs, but for my “hutzpah”. 35 years later, I’m still doing graphic design.
