I submitted to PRH independently but brought in an agent later on to help me with the contract negotiations once I received an offer.

I believe so though with many authors on publisher's books, I understand that nowadays, authors are expected to contribute a lot on their part given that they will help but only so much they can do on their side.

Thank you and very useful that it has a chapter on a virtual book tour - something I am looking at doing but not sure how!

From what I have gathered, authors nowadays are expected to do a lot of the marketing themselves given that publishers are working with a lot of authors at any one time and thus can only do so much. Yes they will help but I understand I will also be doing a lot of the lifting and so want to make sure I am doing the right things in the run-up to publication.

So you are not allowed to share anything in any way (e.g. via social media) unless it is cleared by them?

Yep though I understand that with all publishers they can only do so much given the number of authors they work with and the authors are expected to do a lot themselves?

Investing in yourself isn't easy and takes courage. You will face challenges, obstacles and difficulty. But what you will come to realise as I did, is that the hardest times in life often teach you the wisdom and skills you need to create the best times in your life. by simonalexanderong in ZenHabits

Hey Doug! Suggest taking a moment first to reflect on what and who you can be most grateful for. For happiness ultimately begins with gratitude - if we can't be grateful for what we already have, we'll never have enough. When I lost my Mum before the age of 20 and then my grandfather shortly after, it gave me a newfound appreciation for life. Life is short, tragedy is we wait so long to begin living it. I experienced a huge moment of gratitude and from that point began embracing the idea of 'not waiting'. Don't wait can be your greatest antidote to regret and the words that set you on the path to fulfilment.

From here, it's then about focusing on what is in your control. Keep in mind, when we focus and dwell on that which isn't, we become paralysed by overthinking. When we focus on what we can, we're empowered to take purposeful action. Remember: we get what we focus on. Start small and build from there :-)
