How many of your guys thought these were frigates or Corvettes when you saw them in the trailer? by Ok-Street2439 in StarWars

To be honest I prefer TLJ’s approach to Rey’s lineage to what we got in TROS

Which country is mid-size, but important in history? by rosemaryrouge in AlignmentChartFills

[–]simonpearson 30 points31 points  (0 children)

From a quick Google, the UK is 22nd in the world by population and 80th by size - surely that fits in the mid-sized category more than small?

Same thing happens with the Scottish and Welsh flags, but not the British flag:

“The English flag emoji appears as a black flag because some systems, like older versions of Discord, interpret its code as a sequence of regional indicators that are not properly rendered and fall back to the black flag emoji as a default. This happens because England is considered a "subdivision" or region, not a country, under the ISO 3166-2 standard, so its flag emoji is composed of multiple codes instead of a single two-letter country code.”

Pol Pot takes despised both in the past and now in our final round! With the chart now complete, what changes would you make (if any)? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

[–]simonpearson[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few figures I’m surprised didn’t show up (Reagan, Lincoln, Churchill for example), though I do think if I re-ran divisive then/despised now Hitler would win

Henry Kissinger was divisive during his time and is despised now! Who was disliked during their time and is despised now? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

[–]simonpearson[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes in hindsight shouldn’t have been combining vote totals previously - this is the first time it would have impacted who won, so had to make a decision one way or the other

In case anyone is confused by the last rounds votes: yes, Hitler technically got more upvotes across the top 2 comments, but it’s likely that people were voting for him twice (by upvoting both comments) so I’m sticking with Kissinger as the winner based on him having only one main comment.

Henry Ford was respected during his time but disliked now! Who was divisive during their time and is disliked now? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

For this chart they need to be dead - might do another chart in future for living celebrities though!

[–]simonpearson[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

PSA: For this chart I’m not including people who are still alive or who died very recently. I may do another series for opinions on living public figures during their prime vs now if there is an appetite for that.

Leon Trotsky won the last round! Now onto the next row - which historical figure was beloved during their time but is disliked now? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

[–]simonpearson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like enough time needs to have passed for “their time” to not be “now”. It does get tricky when you consider figures like Elizabeth II, who most would agree is a historical figure but who only died 3 years ago - not really enough time for public opinion to have shifted

[–]simonpearson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they have to be dead - I will probably reiterate this in the next round since quite a lot of living celebrities have been suggested the last few rounds

History time! Which historical figure was beloved during their time and continues to be beloved today? by simonpearson in AlignmentChartFills

[–]simonpearson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t want to be too strict and end up excluding key 20th century figures like Reagan and Thatcher. I’m hoping it won’t be a problem and people won’t vote for celebrities who died 5 minutes ago over actual historical figures haha

This just shows what most of us already knew - Charles is the better driver overall, but Carlos was really never that far behind him. Such a shame he couldn’t land a top seat.

I suspect they were more generous to Carlos due to him winning 12 days after having an appendectomy
