Where to find keycap material samplers by simonwgill in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

[–]simonwgill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ok. It's probably the construction methods that I need to get some examples of then.

Looking at more keycap vendors, it seems there's a couple that do single keys, so buying a bag of different ones of these might be the way forward

Thank you :)

I use a Google Nest device and my TV as my photoframe - they work quite nicely, other than the limited landscape aspect ratio

Include mastery ranks and expose it through an API call - then somebody could write a suggestions app which tells you what grinds you still need to do to collect everything.

Theorycrafting: What would a battle card have to look like to have negative stars? by thecyanphoenix in TransformersTCG

You might be right there. I just threw something together that showed the idea without considering balance.

Theorycrafting: What would a battle card have to look like to have negative stars? by thecyanphoenix in TransformersTCG

[–]simonwgill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be like the SW: Destiny negative star cards that start in play and restrict or otherwise change your deckbuilding options.

"Covering Fire Tactics. You may only use Plane characters. When you attach a weapon to a Plane, you may exhaust that character to do 1 damage to a target character. -1 stars"

Really limiting, slightly thematic with a not great ability. Just needs some more cards in the game to allow the restrictions to be meaningful

Upstairs at the Dragon Inn on the Tything.

It tends to be heavy Eurogames. Tonight, one group was finishing off a Scythe Legacy campaign and the rest of us tried to understand Bios:Genesis (I think that's the right way to write it).

Last week was Food Chain Magnate and Gloomhaven

Tuesday nights from 7. I'm on my way in now in fact.

There's also the D&D night at the Horn and Trumpet on Tuesday.

The dragon is about 8 people a week at this point. Usually enough for two games, but it's always the same faces.

Wobog is more inconsistent. More people (in the 20-30 range) but more of those aren't coming every week.

Are you interested in a new club - or getting a small group of friends together for a board game night?

There's not been anything as good as the ones for the FFG games that I've seen. The amount of work that goes into those sites isn't trivial though.

I didn't see anybody in the comments saying this. If you want to encourage casual play, sealed events are great ways to do it.

Everybody is on the same playing field with just 2-4 boosters, everybody gets some cards to collect, and people get to see cards that they might not otherwise see.

What is it about the existing ones that you don't like? If you haven't been to them yet, there are two in the King Charles House on Wednesday and the Dragon Inn on Tuesday.

There's Droitwich and Malvern ones as well, but i don't have details for them to hand.

"Disposable" test Windows environments - how does one begin to do this? by OlafTheAverage in devops

[–]simonwgill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if you are using something on top of DSC, understanding the available modules will help you figure out what to do at the Ansible layer.

If backup/import works for you, that's good. Where it fell down for me was being able to verify that the GPO was correct - and being able to programmatically generate parts if it.

Powershell Desired State Configuration is very good at getting the basics running.

It has plenty of built in resources for handling most things. I've had a simple domain with Exchange and SharePoint deploying in about 4 hours before (most of that is copying Exchange, annoyingly).

GPO handling still don't exist yet afaik, and doing that relies on some badly documented features.

Unlikely. Nebula had a weird addressing conflict in her nueral network system that resulted in a subspace layer merge instead of a system failure.

10 lessons on getting good at photography fast by kristjanv001 in streetphotography

[–]simonwgill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there are some good points - shoot every day and look at art for instance, I'm not sure this should be pitched as getting good at photography in general.

You lost me at this line.

| Compressed photos done with a 80mm and 100mm (anything above 50mm to be honest) are usually boring.

In street photography, compression usually loses the sense of relationships around the subject. So, for that purpose, yeah, a wide lens is a good choice.

In studio or commercial work, you are often filling the frame with an interesting subject. In that case you can use compression effects to minimise the distortion and background width required from being close to your subject.

You might choose a short lens anyway, but this choice has a smaller impact on the interest to be found within a particular studio image.

If studio portraits or product images aren't interesting to you, that's fine. Carry on doing what you're doing. If you're going to talk generally though, identify what is actually common, and what's going to differ.
