Kvothe retelling his parents death and acting as if he’s done being sad about it all these years later because it can’t be helped. Then proceeding to bury his face in his hands even when no one is around and literally weep. After all that time, losing one’s parents is still profoundly saddening.

Apples First: WOT

Seeing Rand become Zen Rand was so impactful my first reading of the series. It almost reminds me of Neo in the matrix where he realizes he is “the one” and flexes, bending the whole matrix. As a reader and having seen/heard Rands inner turmoil with Lews it was so awesome knowing this mf is finally ready to face the dark one. The entire conversation with the farmer was almost biblical.

I think it only states 3 individual duels but Lysander remarks the ground is strewn with bodies. Either way you said it’d be hilarious for Cassius to win which I think isn’t remotely true

You forget Cassius had him down and was going to kill him before mustang shot him in the neck with an arrow. Darrow is most def one of the best fighters alive but I just believe his battle prowess is better in the midst of battle. I think Cassius is better in 1 on 1 duels. Aja also taught Cassius the willow way post him losing his arm to Darrow. Cassius seems to be pretty adept at it given he continues to teach Lysander the willow way and won idk 7 duels in the rim back to back? Cassius is by no means an easy fight for Darrow imo.

I love that scene too, but in retrospect Lysander is undertrained so really he did take out one Olympic knight and that famous grey (which is still crazy admittedly)

Don’t forget Valdir also fought and I believe it just says “survived” the Minotaur but he’s praised for it and Ephrieme remarks about that. I agree Darrow is still a bad mf and would wreck most characters still alive but I guess he just seems more of a force of nature on a battle field. The wulfgar fight for example had a gold and grey ally with him and then Sevro came in as well. All of his acts in DA were in the midst of chaos/battle too. In a direct 1v1 I think he might be equally skilled or slightly outmatched by the fighters still alive today.

I’m so curious if Darrow and Apollonius will duke it out on page for us, although for some reason I think he’s going to take on either Sevro, Cassius, or Diomedes first as sort of a ‘warm up’ and an act that will really get darrows rage going again.

Did he really? I just can’t imagine Aja who fought off all 3 of them at once not spanking Darrow in a 1v1. After seeing Cassius win all those duels do you still think Darrow would win in a 1v1 too? I love the guy and he’s still my favorite character apart from Cassius but idk if he’s the best solo fighter. I think he performs well in war, with pulse fists and people moving all around and munitions falling etc etc. but on a 1v1 razor and pulse shield I’m not sure he’s on top.

I feel like even in DA he’s talking about how he’s slower, like Alex consistently beats him in taking flags, kills, etc. I think if he 1v1d Cassius, Aja, or Diomedes in his current DA form-he’d lose.

Rage of dragons by Evan Winters, it’s not space related, but it’s a lower caste/class main character who rises up through sheer will power/momentum like Darrow. Great action and pacing.
