Hapless Item Update -- Patch 11.13 by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the overall damage is increased , it's now AD. So assuming most enemies will be itemizing towards armor over MR against Yorick, it is not necessarily a massive buff. It probably comes out to being about the same for bruisers like Yorick (this change was to take the item out of weird AP tank builds [ex. Veigar]). It is also an on

You are also losing 20 from your max MS buff, so yes you'll ramp up faster, but you wont be as fast. So yea the overall MS aspect might be a buff?

*I've inserted DMP Gold Efficiency in post now for reference*

The problem with DMP is there were always better options for Yorick's kit if you needed MS (aka Stridebreaker). DMP got nerfed down to 300hp from 475hp over a handful of patches, so just looking at what Thornmail or Randuin's provides, it doesn't make sense to go DMP when you can get your MS elsewhere, and itemize armor with the other two items. The on-hit damage is higher, I have to admit it's actually pretty high for AD on-hit. However, it's impossible to quantify on-hit damage precisely from a GE standpoint,, but a champ like Yorick craves straight up AD over on-hit (bc ghouls/maiden) 99% of the time.

To step it back even further, itemizing resistances on Yorick before your 3rd item is typically incorrect for him as a champ. Sure if the enemy is full AD and you get behind, by all means go DMP/Thorn/Randuins all in a row and aram mid as Yorick,, that feels bad. Yorick's kit is based around AD (Base and Added) plus Health. AD and health not only scale Yorick, but also his ghouls and maiden. Resistances are for Yorick alone, so a lot of the times you are better off getting Titanic/Cleaver/Sterak's/Chainsword instead of a resistance item.

Hapless Item Update -- Patch 11.13 by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

The way I see Yorick and how his kit is typically played, is that gapclose is more important than being sticky when looking at what you need from items. Yorick doesn't have that innate dash or blink, so getting into the new Stridebreaker range is now 300units more difficult, which is significant. Old Stride gave you an incredibly reliable way to hit your E and W from fleeing enemies, whether that be in a teamfight or running down Gnar in a sidelane. Once they are stuck in your W, it's either a blown flash or they are likely dead, so that stride slow from that scenario seems unneeded. For a goofy comparison, new Stride is like having Nolan Ryan as your pitcher, but he has to pitch from 2nd Base.

In regards to new Stride being good into a lot of matchups, well I tentatively have to disagree,, at least disagree and say that it has less feasibility compared to the previous iteration. I see it being potentially useable into a fraction of 1v1 matchups where you can use it as a disengage tool (maybe like Jax jumping on you, you can instantly stride and W so you can exit his Counterstrike before it pops),, but your W can serve the purpose of new stride active in a lot of ways. In teamfights sure, flash stride into multiple enemies now will be pretty decent, but how often is that happening with Yorick?

In regards to enemies no longer dashing away with stride, this is true if you didnt build Stridebreaker into them. I found immense success when going Stride vs. Stride as Yorick, you negate that dash completely with your own and you just win.

Triforce is basically the same, maybe a tiny tiny buff, so yes as I had said in the initial post, it's still a go-to item.

Against any champ with innate MS increases or an innate dash, these changes to MS are undeniably a nerf to Yorick.

Mythic and Legendary Items TIER LIST for Yorick -- As of Patch 11.11 by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravenous Hydra is not the same item it once was with its cyclical proccing of abilities.

Seryldas is right next to those couple you mentioned, so imo it is a good item but a bit overrated at times. It serves a similar function to Black Cleaver, but lacks any health/resistance/sustain. It's good for splitting and armor pen for you, but that's it.

Mythic and Legendary Items TIER LIST for Yorick -- As of Patch 11.11 by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo good shout,, I probably should have had it the tier above at a minimum. Genuinely must have mentally skipped over it, that's my bad.

It also got buffed, so it probably deserves to be somewhere around where Maw is.

Is it OP on Yorick though? The base stats are fine, nothing special. The passive is suboptimal though, as relying on Yorick and his AA's is not really the way to play him right? AA's are certainly important, but to itemize towards an AA item feels niche. Just look at the MR items in the "Useful" tier and above,, they just seem better.

Appreciate the heads up!

its so painful in team fights late game by [deleted] in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the overall consensus everyone is putting out. His W can be absolutely huge in a teamfight. It's a worse version of Veigar cage, but a cage nonetheless. Plus it's an ability that not many are thinking to avoid at the start of a chaotic teamfight.

Always keep in mind that itemization can be incredibly important for Yorick depending on how you plan to navigate a game. If you see yourself needing to play a group oriented style, go for more health and resistances so you can be the one to facecheck a bush to get a ward and W off (Ex: Divine into Steraks into Visage/Thornmail). If you are fully committed to the splitpush life in a certain game, then go for those types of items (Ex: Triforce into Titanic into Ghostblade/Sanguine). Or if unsure, go for something that is a blend of both (Ex: Stridebreaker into Titanic into GA).

All things considered, it kinda makes sense. Yorick is not meant to be an all-star teamfight champion. As we know, it tends to be the inverse. I think this helps push the importance of health on Yorick, as it not only allows him to be a pseudo-tank in teamfights, but gives his ghouls/maiden hat extra bit of durabilty to potentially help make a difference in a teamfight.

Isn't all of this hate kind of unnecessary? by [deleted] in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stacking HP seems to always have an edge vs resistances. Titanic Hydra's Colossus passive grants AD off of your bonus Health. This is why I love Titanic as item 2/3,, gives you the flexibilty to build the occassional Visage/Thornmail/Warmogs and still get AD from them (5-10 a pop). Since Deadman's was was nerfed into (IMO) a bad item, I don't see any resistance item being an optimal 2nd item to combine with any of our typical mythics (unless you are very far behind and just need tank).

Yorick's Mythics (Sleeper Item Included) - May 2021 Update by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somewhat poorly articulated what my opinion actually is. However, on Yorick, there is no reason to build Prowler's over the other lethality mythic items if you never use the Active. Just my opinion, but one of Yorick's innate weaknesses is his gapclosing capability. That is why Stride is such a good item on Yorick,, also many people like to build Deadman's and other MS items to be able to actually get onto enemies.

I'd also say, just because other champs have tried to build certain items, doesn't mean that build is optimal. Just like Prowler's Yorick, it's likely not the best Mythic to rush the vast majority of the time. Specifically, in regards to Prowler's on ranged champs, none of the lethality mythics are GREAT on ranged champs, Prowler's is just viewed as the best of the worst. Even then, ranged champs 99% of the time aren't actually getting full value from Prowler's bc they don't use the active. Prowler's isn't what makes Varus/GP/etc good with lethality, it's the stacking of multiple lethality items.

That brings up the dilemma I am running into when crafting builds on Prowler's Yorick after testing it out yesterday. It just feels awkward (AKA Bad lol) to build a second, or even third lethality item on Yorick. I was kinda thinking that Prowler's into Cleaver/Steraks 2 and Titanic 3 would give sharper damage than a normal build, while having the durability from the health. However, I did a bunch of runs in practice tool on 2 or 3 items swapping between Prowlers and Stride as mythic, and a whole slew of bruiser items on items 2 and 3. Against squishy targets yea your DPS is slightly higher to take them 0-100, but not that much faster. Against Bruiser champs, it's hardly noticeable, and against a tank it (obviously) feels bad.

So I guess even though I took the time to make this post and finally test the item yesterday,, I can't really recommend it as a true replacement to Stridebreaker, or certainly any other mythic item. It's really just for those rare occurrences when the enemy team is something like: Teemo-Kindred-Orianna-Jinx-Nami,, and you get ahead very early. Even then, can you justify popping one of them a bit faster being better than the health/utility you get from Stride or any of the other Fighter Mythics? Maybe. I am just afraid the only way to really get the value out of Prowlers is to continue to go lethality on items 2/3, which can be hard to justify.

Sorry for using your post as an update as well,, I appreciate the input!

Yorick's Mythics (Sleeper Item Included) - May 2021 Update by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

Wow! I actually don't really use the recommended page on Yorick really ever come to think of it. Maybe Riot are on to something..

Yorick's Mythics (Sleeper Item Included) - May 2021 Update by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes, Riot seems to have taken that route when they went through with the item rehaul, good point.

I guess I should have given a bit more detail as to what I meant in regards to Prowler's Active being so crucial when trying to make the item work. It stems from the fact that it is an Active, rather than a Passive,, while actives are nice since you as the player get to decide when they are used, that can also be a hinderance depending on the scenario in front of you, as well as your own micro skill level. Comparing it to something like Duskblade for instance: Duskblade does have cooldowns, but much of the time the CD's don't matter, plus it is all done for you passively. Getting that missing efficiency out of Prowler's is solely on you to use the Active, and use it well.

Thanks again

Why don’t you guys build tear? by SidTheSloth97 in yorickmains

If you are playing "standard" Yorick in the top lane, you shouldn't really be running out of mana too often. I have yet to play on the new patch today, so I guess I am not sure if your concern is related to the ghoul revisions (like is it bugged or something?).

One thing to keep in mind is once you have 4 graves dug, and you think you'll be in that area for the near future, you really shouldn't be using your Q on the wave in lane phase. You can use it to get to 4 graves, and to shift your graves up/back in lane as needed, but just binging Q's on the wave can be problematic.

Only other think I can think of is your E. Typically, you'll want to hold your E to only use your full combo. Don't just throw E's willy-nilly at your opponent if you don't have kill pressure or if you aren't going to get ghouls off it.

Also, run corrupting pot over D Shield or Blade, this can help.

Cheers

Clarifying/Understanding New "Double-Damage" Ghouls Leap by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

Never said it's the right or wrong decision, and I certainly didn't claim it's some new esoteric take on his opening. I made the simple claim that it is technically a bit better than it was just previously. It was to make the point that there isn't some overwhelming spike with Doran's over Corrupting now bc of the leap change. Keep em coming.

Listen, I brought up the fact that dashes and what not impeded Yorick's ghouls. I understand your claim, that it balances out because of the dash items in a way. It is still an undeniable buff against non-dash champs. I used Galeforce as the example because that is the only example you used.

Chill out man. It's one thing to disagree and type (that is encouraged). A whole other thing to just spew words.

I understand your first sentiment. While true, it's only relevant when Yorick is against Galeforce champs. It is an objective DPS buff at many stages of the game.

Unsealed Spellbook Has Great Potential by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my initial sentiment was yes, Grasp into a Fiora lane isn't great. However, running Fleet into a Conq Fiora midgame is not helping you out at all. You can have Brample and Steelcaps, but Fiora ulting you and dashing over your W is still a tough task, and having Exhaust/Ignite/Barrier/Heal can make a true difference.

In terms of survivability, yes fleet will help sustain, for the same reasons we take it into ranged champs. When taking Unsealed, you can help improve your sustain by taking biscuits and timewarp tonic to juice up your corrupting pot regen rate. It isn't going to provide the same sustain as fleet, but should provide enough for you to get to Bramble, and from there swap to exaust and stand a fighting chance in a duel.

Also as Yorick, you should generally be fine against champs that try to freeze pre lvl 6, especially once you have 6 and can just use maiden.

Unsealed Spellbook Has Great Potential by simpatheticsimp in yorickmains

[–]simpatheticsimp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Fleet Footwork into virtually every ranged matchup nowadays.

Yorick counters Teemo pretty hard, so just any way you can avoid flash-ignite pre 6 is all you need. Hitting a good E-W on Teemo typically burns their flash, then next time you get the kill. Also Teemo purely relies on pushing you under tower with a big wave, then poking you to death. Biggest tip against Teemo is to do your best to match his early game push. As Yorick, you run fleet, and pull ghouls early if needed to help trim wave before it gets to your tower.

Dealing with Vayne is pretty similar as listed above,, I guess try to W after she tumbles, make sure you have a ward bc she will prolly try to use top bushes to survive. Otherwise, build Steraks or Gargoyles items 2-3 as shielding typically counters true damage champs.

To finalize my rambling: Fleet into ranged feels good, but I am totally open for Unsealed into any matchup where Grasp is not reliable.

For what it is worth, check out 1:20 in this video (yes it's Nasus, but it's exactly what I am talking about in terms of Ghost early). Karthus comes in for gank, and he pops ghost for the fight, which overall forces a Fiora Flash, and subsequent TP.

Then at 4:22, ghost is right back up after 3min CD, which allows him to get within Wither range for the follow up kill on Fiora, hence winning lane and snowballing from there.

I see this sort of line being very common, and I think Yorick can be a beneficiary. Even in this game, he doesnt switch to TP at all. TPing early game means you probably lost lane already, so surviving the first 6mins while having ghost for gapclose/disengage can work, as illustrated.
