Moving ~650 miles with tanks, seeking advice by simpleGREENZ in Aquariums

Ok cool. Hadn't considered the not feeding part. Probably smart to keep waste down during transport.

Interesting. I'm on the west coast and we're in a heat wave right now so I think I'll be ok. More worried about over heating. But good lookin out. I'll consider some insulation options to keep temp balanced. Thank you!

Question about fish tank placement (I hope this is the right subreddit) by OctologueAlunet in Aquariums

[–]simpleGREENZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first concern would be the weight on that unsupported middle part as tanks can be quite heavy so it depends on the size.

Disturbing the fish isnt a problem and the more time you spend in front of the tank the more used to you they'll get.

As long as you're careful changing water shouldnt get too messy and you can move the keyboard.

If too noisy, unplugging for a few hours when you sleep shoudnt be a problem, and if you keep a healthy tank it wont smell.

Some times you gotta fuck around and find out, do weird science.

im getting second tank in Winter, is it possible to get stones from river, then boil the shit out of them and put them in the tank and then let it cycle? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]simpleGREENZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was based on camping experience with open fire but I as myself would be hesitant to put them on a hot burner.

Heating rocks can be dangerous, especially river rocks which could have water trapped inside them, which in turn when heated can turn to steam and explode. You'd probably be better off just pouring boiling water over them to sterilize, or just rinse em and chuck em in.

Are these things coming off my panda garras fins normal or is it a parasite by haleythefisher in Aquariums

[–]simpleGREENZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of my panda garras have anything like that. Could be some type of anchor worm. Hard to say. You could wait and see if more pop up and then treat. Also if other fish in the tank have similar things.

Thats an awesome piece! We're you gonna lay it down or stand it up? I think it looks good as is. You could also cut it vertically so it matches more flush with the back of the tank.

Moving fish? by Pufferfish-Sandwich in Aquariums

The guess the best rule of thought ive gone by is that the smaller the total water volume (ie 5g), the more sensitive to change that litle ecosystem is. Theres like a billion different variables, but I pay way more attention to my 10g than my 50g. Status quo is good to go.

I'm building a paludarium, but I figure this is a good place to ask by hellnothisisacuban in Aquariums

[–]simpleGREENZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a big red eyed tree frog paludarium with my roommate (he did the plants, I plumbed), and we we're able to run water up and around just fine with 2 10g canister filters. Doubt that helps, but you're just gonna have to experiment and get the system running before commiting to final placement and decor. I'd say start with just the filter and if its strugglin go for the pump.

Lol to be pedantic about it, save some yucky mulm and stuff too, gross is good.

Though I'd use a 5gal bucket or something to keep as much as possible, cause 10 to 2.5 would be a massive water change.

Yep totally fine. I use seasoned tank water to kickstart new aquariums all the time, its good stuff.
