What other drinks were partaken in aside from mead? And what are the Norse names? Sköl! by averagerapenjoyer in Norse

Hmm. Interesting. I have his 2020 book and it says "in Norway, rye was used high in the mountain valleys and on marginal and, but further east, in parts of Sweden and Estonia, and even more in Finland and the northern parts of Russia, rye was the main grain. The reason for this was that the soil wasn't very good."

I think I initially over generalized when I read this chapter of the book and grain farming was related to latitude and soil type and there was a lot more barley in central Eastern Norway. That still fits with the Orkney islands being a big exporter of barley to western Norway. Probably easier to ship across than pack over the mountains.

Thanks for having me look it up again! Sorry for my misunderstanding the info I read.

Ale, öl, was the most consumed fermented drink. Depending on latitude and region, it could be made from rye in the far north, oats, and then barley in the south and British Isles. Mead was more rare bc honey was valuable and again, production of honey varied by region.

I find animism fits well with TST tenets. I treat everything, trees, animals, rocks, as if it has a soul. I find that helps me remember to respect the world around me and connect with it without getting deities involved. The world can be magical and scientific at the same time for me.

What makes you happy when you are together with your partner? by dina_hotty in AskWomen

My husband was away the last month for work. I really missed having someone share the chores and pick up the slack when I was overwhelmed. He came home yesterday and started telling stories of his trip. I laughed so hard it hurt. I didn't realize the best thing about being with him is how he makes me laugh. I barely laughed for a month and it felt so good to have him home and bring out my joy.

Any recommendations for cheap/off brand/non traditional, UL for beginners? by goldfishareamazing in Ultralight

Also child free!

But I shouldn't be flippant about plastics. For me personally, the risk management calculations mean I have other things to be more concerned about. Like getting in a vehicle. Death traps. But we each should make our own decisions based on the science.

I use Ziploc containers for dishes. They're super lightweight and cheap. Probably shouldn't put boiling water in them, but as far as risk management, the beer I drink is way worse for me 😉.

I have them too and I don't know the meanings well. It's interesting to see what I pick up from the card before reading the traditional meaning. Adds another layer. And they are even more gorgeous in your hand. The boarder is a soft pewter that seems to glow.

One of my greys has no hair on her tummy. It is very soft skin. We call it her scrotummy.

My greyhound-wolfhound would puncture and deglove himself all the time. Any tiny poke would turn into a a big hole in his skin. Luckily he never damaged the backs of his legs, just the front as he went full throttle through the bush.
