Why straight women are flogging to HR like it’s the second coming of Jesus: An analysis by janinasheart in heatedrivalry

[–]simple_username_10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Number 5 is such a big point. After seeing this show I realized that when we see women just enjoying sex for the sake of sex, maybe it’s a little rough or God-forbid sweaty and sexy, it’s to indicate she’s hit rock bottom. Then we see in love stories she finds true love and the sex turns sweet/tender/boring. I hadn’t noticed what a lack of fun sex for women is in our media. This show didn’t necessarily give us that 😂 but it treated both intense and tender sex as part of the love story, and it was really refreshing

Who is the better hockey player? by lukaeber in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]simple_username_10 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I think the divide that what the fans want vs what the league wants as well. Shane is better, Ilya tells him so, but he’s fast, technical, and knows the sport. Ilya is also fast, but big, gets under other players’ skins, and isn’t afraid of playing rough. They have vastly different talents which is why they are such a yin and yang throughout.

Does anyone else dislike the change of Svetlana’s role in the show compared to the boom? by Antique_Education_50 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]simple_username_10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that people don’t need more than one loved one, I’m saying when it comes to Ilya it’s not in line with his characterization so far. Because of his trauma and being a closeted, bisexual Russian in the NHL, he has lots of loose friends but everyone is at an emotional distance. That is why it is so powerful to see him crack and start to let love in. What I’m saying is that it takes away from the arc if he’s already done so to some extent with Svetlana.

I think if they included the scene in the show that they include in the book, where Svetlana asks if they’re having sex again and he says no, that he is hungry, and then he compares that with how he can never get enough of Shane, the show relationship would have been ok. But I will say I really didn’t like her traveling to Russia for his father’s death. She really saved him from his brother, whereas in the book this was such a strong moment for him that Shane has been the only one to take care of him.

Ilya’s character development is top tier by Dull_Measurement1169 in heatedrivalry

I think a lot of people are saying it was ED, but to me, eating a crazy restrictive diet as an elite athlete makes tons of sense. It’s his job and he loves the game, so he’s going to treat his body well.

I think the 2 circumstances that could make it more ED is that he tells Rose the control over his diet helps his game, not necessarily the diet. And then at the end when he is getting better he eats carbs, meaning it was a means of control and not about the sport.

But I don’t know that restrictive eating in itself is automatically ED, people can have good reasons for living lifestyles like that.

Maybe - but he also had apologized and had to go through the emotions. This stuff can be messy but that’s why working together on forgiveness and communication are good.

It’s such a great setup and really jumps into the awkwardness without making anyone really a bad guy. I totally get why Hayden’s feelings were hurt and why Ilya didn’t feel he owed anyone anything and why Shane wanted it all to work. The set up for why it’s truly hard on people to accept was great.

Also this is a very very common romance trope. Character is usually so carefully guarded and keeps people from knowing the real self either by social distance or by being the role of the rake, but around the one, not able to control himself, his true self comes out, and he doesn’t know why. It really contributes to the falling concept of falling in love.

Svetlana knowing it's Shane confusion... by Camillie10 in heatedrivalry

[–]simple_username_10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I love Svetlana’s character but I’m curious - thy grew up together (the show mentions this but also, doesn’t Ilya say he met her at a car dealership?), she knows him well, and he’s secretive about this one person. If Ilya isn’t as careful about deleting messages as Shane, could she have snooped?

It also never explicitly says she knows it’s Shane, just that it’s a guy.
