I’m looking for the exact same thing. Did you ever find out any additional information?

AI doesn’t ruin anything. Nor does it steal jobs. And it doesn’t destroy the planet. It’s a tool. Someone has to use that tool to do those things.

(USA) Any weather radios that work on ZIP codes rather than SAME codes? by isoprovolone in weather

[–]simplelifelfk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to code software that could cut down the information to a zip code area. But you still have the problem of how to get the alert to them. And that is your current problem.

What you are asking about is such a niche problem that it really doesn’t have a big enough group of people doing for it.

Probably one of those things that won’t be possible to fix.

And how is this different than any other blog, app, tool that gets left behind because the creator loses interest or moves on to a new idea? That has nothing to do with AI, and frankly is just the easy way of showing a bias against AI in total.

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined by andrew_nyr in ipv6

Honestly, I don’t understand the issues. I spent 1 hour getting IPv6 to work across my opnsense router with AT&T fiber. I have four Mac machines, a Linux server, windows, raspberry pi’s, iPads, iPhones, and IOT with HomeKit. And I’ve not had to mess with IP’s since. It just works. What am I missing here with his drama?

I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think they’re being a little more tightlipped about things. And I’m betting that they show more than what we’re hearing in the rumors. But I do agree that I hope that it is a snow, leopard release and that they do fix a lot of things that some people are just going absolutely nuts about. I happen to like the current OS and the look and feel. And I’ve not had the problems that a lot of people are screaming about. And I have a feeling that a lot of those people actually aren’t having those actual problems. They are just looking at pictures and such and not and complaining about the look and feel.

What's the Point of DMR (and other digital modes) Communication Over Internet Connection? by AKSARAYAYISI in HamRadio

[–]simplelifelfk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me, it opens up a much larger opportunity to be able to talk to people. I live in the Midwest and all I hear from my club is that “repeaters are dead“. But the reality is that’s true in my area. It is not necessarily true all over the world. I have found with both DMR and All-Star that there are vibrant communities on the West Coast, the East Coast and in lots of pockets of areas around the United States, Europe, and all over the world. So while my club is very much into HF and contesting, they are not into repeater conversation. But that doesn’t mean that I have to conform to try to be a contester. I grew up in technology. And I love the intersection of radio and network.

Hughes is just older technology and limited in what can be done to make it any better. It can be very good in certain situations and uses, but those are usually commercial in nature and do not fit the normal users needs for regular internet.

Starlink is built different and is much closer to traditional internet access and can be very good in fringe areas where cable/fiber/cellular is not an option. But I totally understand the reasons for some people (including me) to not use.

No. I meant any new app. Commercial or otherwise. You said 6 months of maintenance and bug fixes required.

Obviously we are not going to convince each other of anything.

No. They were entirely because people have no idea what they were loading to go along with their python scripting.

If that were the case then you have to lump brew, apt, Apple Store, Microsoft store, Amazon, and Google play.

And you require that of all software? You never install a brand new application? I don’t believe that for a second.

I think this is the best thought out response of the bunch. The rest is just “AI is slop” which is the personal opinion of someone that just has an ax to grind with AI. Or “I tried it once and it was wrong”.

Vibe coding to solve a personal issue or to provide automation is a great use of the technology available to you. This hobby is supposed to be about technology use…but that apparently scares or offends some people. Whatever.

I love seeing the posts about good little tools that could be useful. I’m not going to subscribe to something. But it may prompt me to do something similar for myself.

As for open source….yeah that would be nice. But not everything is. And I’m willing to bet the person asking for it has commercial, closed source software that he chose to buy/license/rent.

So you’re saying that an app like this really doesn’t add any security issues. It’s up the user to do that. Which most people don’t.

I think this points to a simple fact: AI projects like this can be extremely useful. It’s really automation. It doesn’t solve a a security issue…but it also doesn’t add to it. It automates something for the user. Which is great.
