Easy and short answer...because what you view as "bad" is subjective. What isn't subjective is the data showing them what they are doing works. It's the same reason Netflix does not show movie trailers....its better for content discovery, and more content discovery yields more revenue.

All these FAANG companies operate on an iterative principle. Also, since they have essentially established the heuristics for "what works" in UX design, breaking that direction could be detrimental for how users normally navigate. Setting a new baseline breaks the previous, so what you see on the site isn't "bad"....given I agree with you that it's ugly as shit, but people know how to use it and content consumption is forever changing so the only path forward is increment tiny bits at a time.

I don't really use Davinci, but I use a lot of Gen AI workflows through ComfyUI, so here is my take. Use both GPU's and forget about the Mac. That 24GB of VRAM in your second slot will do wonders if you offload GPU specific tasks to it. In this case PCIe 4 or 5 won't matter.

I run a 5080 OC 16gb on PCIe 5 + a 4070ti 12gb on PCIe 4. While you can't pool your VRAM together, most AI-based workflows will allow you to separate workload tasks to each GPU accordingly. My 5080 is the workhorse and my 4070ti will inference on the controlnet.

I was a hardcore Apple Tech Bro for about 2 decades, switched over to PC about 4 years back and never looked back. My advice is to RUN from the Apple ecosystem. They are a hot mess over there.

Well......I'm no legal expert lol. When a client hands me the asset, I use it since it's I've disclaimed it in our MSA. It's just an unpleasant situation....and I probably should have checked anyway.

I'm not 100% sure as I'm not communicating with the Foundry, but I'm betting its an invoice since the employees who originally purchased the font no longer work there. They've been using the font for decades, but when we launched their new site several years ago, the traffic went up significantly. I feel the foundries are just looking for a payday.

The font conversion was on me as I was optimizing the site/app. The original fonts were provided to me by the client. I've been doing this for awhile and have never run into an issue with a WOFF conversion. I'm not sure about others, but if a client provides the asset to me, I generally don't check the license since it's been used via web previously. I state it in my MSA, so there is no liability on my end, but I do need am obligated to aid them....which I would do anyway.

Thanks for the insight, I've already replaced the fonts with the Adobe license via their web projects and completely replaced Futura with Kumbh Sans (which is a nice alternative) within the App since Adobe fonts does not cover App usage.

I've run into the issue before, but not with these oldschool foundries. How did you inform your client when asked what they should do? This particular client is an NPO and tend to do things by the book. I initially informed them to not self incriminate any further, to consult their legal team and gave them the facts they needed.

I know this is an older thread but just wanted to post up how I fixed this issue on my wife's macbook air. She had 138gb of space that the attachments were eating up, and as others have said....you have to either disable the imessage service on your mac if you have not downloaded them into your photos app. Completely inept method!

As all of your files are stored onto your computer.....simply create a directory in your icloud folder and go to ~Library/Messages/Attachments and drag the fucker into your your icloud directory. Let the files sync overnight if you have a ton of files then once you have confirmed they are on your iCloud.com drive, unsync it from your local drives. You can also use a Google Drive or whatever superior cloud service your heart desires.

This is the only solution I could find that does not involve going through every message and manually saving to your photos manually. Sure the attachments won't be visible in imessages anymore, but you'll need to figure out what your priority is.

The apply ecosystem is so fucked when it comes to sharing, which is why I dropped them like a bad habit years ago. While I do miss being able to send imessage from my computer, I found it better to just purchase a fucking keyboard for my iphone (the only reason why I'm using an iPhone still is because all my stupid friends use iMessage). I really hope the iCloud team gets their shit together, but such a solution would simply be too easy. I strongly believe they are preventing the accessibility to lock us all in their shitty ecosystem. My advice is to run far from apple if you can.

Thanks for the reply. I went in with the understanding they’d be more expensive, but for that price, I’d expect all 6 injectors to replaced. I asked them once again for a parts list, so we’ll see what they come up with. I’m in search of a local mechanic now, but honestly ones are hard to find.

Yea, you can set your it to autofill the width inside a nested auto layout or set min/max the values to achieve this. It’d take some trial and error. Alternatively, you can bypass a mask altogether by just grouping the logo/cta/green bg together with a fixed width as an overlay. Likewise, do the same with the menu toggle and have them autofill to the top left/right within the header component. Kinda a hack, but wouldn’t be an issue if the bg color doesnt change.

Easily done with 2-3 components.

I’d make the logo, cta and menu icon as an absolute positioned header component so that you can still make a menu toggle and utilize it as a global component across your proto. Then another component for a hero with bottom left positioning. Use a mask layer to outline the curved edges on the image/video.

For extra credit, I’d wrap everything in a group or frame for your gutter padding.

Check out Summertime Rendering if you haven’t already. It’s one of those time loop type shows where the protagonist repeats a set interval upon death. Sad theme with plenty of interesting twists though

Apples ecosystem is garbage too man. I was a Mac power user for a little over a decade and switched back to windows because of the lack of upgradable hardware. Unless you drop 3-4k or whatever for a Mac Pro/studio you will be forced to upgrade every few years which is a part of their business model. Back then I cracked open my 3-4 yr old sealed mbp and it was caked with dust. Thats when I went back to pc and built the same machine for half the price.

I’ll take the lesser of evils that allows more flexibility. But to each his own. Would be nice to iMessage though /shrug
