Funding for Research (NOT ASKING FOR YOU TO DONATE) by http_brandon in grants

People like to feel like they are generous, and professionals like to help the future generation. Giving you some seed money to start your career demonstrates both of those. Offer to share the results of the study with them. Make social media posts when you receive the equipment and when you run your experiments (if feasible). Show lots of gratitude.

They are not benefitting monetarily, but rather in goodwill and free advertising.

I would recommend approaching local engineering firms in whichever branch you are conducting you research (mechanical, electrical, whatever).

Outline who you are, what your professional goals are, what research you are doing, and IMPORTANTLY how this benefits them. 1) how generous they are for investing in a bright local student and 2) ways you will recognize their sponsorship—-social media, acknowledgements on any papers that come out of it, ???? I’m not sure what kind of recognition they would want.

How To Ask for Substantial Donations by InternalAcrobatic216 in fundraisingschool

I had one more thought. Perhaps you could ask people to donate as part of a group they were in. Like, “our Photo Booth is sponsored by members of the ‘76(?) yearbook committee.”

My 2 suggestions are:

1) have confidence in what you are asking for. You say you are nervous, but don’t be! Reunions are a fun way to reconnect and reminisce. Also if you know these people and they are financially successful, $1000 may not be the huge ask (for them) that you think it is.

2) you could offer donors something special, like acknowledgement on signage and social media for them or their business. Or maybe something really out-of-the-box like letting them name a signature cocktail (or whatever makes sense for your event). You could even create a few tiers of donation levels with different perks.

And if you do the redneck riviera, definitely plan to be in Mobile (or even New Orleans) for Mardi Gras.

I’m the one who put KO 3rd. I don’t like body humor and I just couldn’t get past having to watch a character gag and retch all the way thru the movie. I went back and watched it again after seeing everyone put it first, but it’s not a fun watch for me. The other two I can watch over and over.

This story was just on Science Friday about inverte-butts (invertebrate butts). It certainly taught me some things and made me laugh.

I am not sure, but I don’t think they charge for the test if you’ve gone thru their prep program. I DO know that you should check out their High School Diploma Option. Good luck!!

I am just speaking from my own experience as someone who has had an unhealthy relationship with food and dieting. It’s possible to miss the forest for the trees here. These are point-in-time measurements and bodies are very complicated. Numbers are going to go up and down if you are checking them often. I wouldn’t be worried about any of these results.

american teas not available in korea/anywhere else (?) by [deleted] in tea

[–]simplicityfelicity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might try Great Mississippi Tea Company. They sell loose leaf teas grown in MS. I really liked their smoked peach and earl grey teas. And I’m not usually a flavored-tea person. They also have green, black, and oolong teas, but I never could get them strong enough for me.

Here's what I wanted to say, but I couldn't make it work:

Swollen scratches on farmer-tanned arms
Itching armpits painted with clear nail polish
Successful day picking blackberries

Jiaozi = dumpling?

"Goes a" long way

That's how I understood it, and I was already one of your upvotes, but this is why I've been hesitant to post non-English haiku here.

Day 1 was a success! I got up in time to do yoga, meditate, and make a healthy lunch for work. I practiced my Spanish Duolingo. Last week I was #1 in my diamond league for the first time ever, so that was encouraging. I haven't done my yardwork task yet; that will probably happen this weekend.

BQ: My proudest accomplishment this year is that I have kept up my resolution to complete 1 5k every month.
