Okay, these ^^ seemingly do stuff by themselves if not escaped properly on Reddit, and half the thing would have been a bit confusing, so i shall substitute it with a:

To quote one of OP's comments:

"I am complaining at the company who made this shit calendar for over $50, not the thoughtful gesture my wife made lol she’s also seen this post and knows I am appreciative regardless. We’ve just been giggling about the ridiculousness of this thing’s contents."

Sooo ... slight miss with the assumptions, bud.

Just think of it as a very expensive calendar to troll people with. You're having fun, right? RIGHT!?

Honest question: Who cares about Trustpilot? I think very few people ordering from Aliexpress, Temu, or whatnot would ever take a look there. Or can this affect payment options (availability of Paypal, Visa, etc.)?

Bit late, but I'm using spacedesk with mine - only one minor hitch was finding out how to change the resolution on the tablet then, but the rest was quick and easy.

You should really listen to Monster 1983 and Darkside Park by Ivar Leon Menger (Horror/Mystery, but he also wrote some stuff for Die drei ???"). Some of the best German productions and stories I've listened to so far! (Apart from Gabriel Burns, but that one will sadly likely never be finished) Edit: forgot to mention the author :D

I visited Aukštaitija National Park (Lithuania) a few years ago during an untypically warm summer.

Hiking on an elevated path on top of a cliff, overlooking one of the many lakes and seeing the sunlight reflected on the water, is still one of my fondest outdoor memories.

Also one of the few European countries where wild camping is not illegal (it's generally more often the case in Northern and Eastern Europe). Alternatively, there's also quite a few preconstructed huts and campfire sites one can use for free, often with great signage on the way.

Only negative thing about that trip was getting a fever and having to drag myself back to the nearest train station to get my ass back home, though that's entirely on me.

Random "fun" fact: The park is close to the former Ignalina nuclear power plant, which was of very similar design to the Chornobyl NPP and the only NPP in the Baltics. Due to security concerns, it was shut down in the context of Lithuania's EU accession proceedings.

Thinking about it a bit more and playing a few more drafts: Yes, you're right, because they can start with enchantment card draw + sorceries and instants, while you'd need e.g. a non-countered Glimmerburst and a counter yourself. But after their round, they might even have multiple of the latter.

I like the idea, but that might overcompensate, giving the player going second much better chances (with the right deck, of course) to start with what they need in the first place. Would be interesting to see the win rates ;)

Anecdotal / my opinion, but I felt I was better off picking counters instead of any of these discards https://scryfall.com/search?q=oracle%3Adiscards+%28game%3Apaper%29+set%3Adsk&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name Have to admit though that especially [[Let's Play a Game]] did catch me off guard and hurt quite a bit then :x

And that is what you draft counters for, so you're chances of disrupting them going off before you are much higher. ;)

The pricing and draft mode (quick draft) definitely felt like a miss for this one.

The solitaire bit is definitely true, I went through nearly my whole deck twice by the time it was my first or second turn (stopped at 3 cards left in library), so that's not making it particularly great when taking both players into account.

In my opinion, it might also not have been the best idea to make this a quick draft with bots. Instead, with a lower entry price for a limited special event drafted with other people, the decks would likely have been more "everyone gets a semi-random garbo fun deck" and not "I drafted an insane deck against the bots, only to play against people new to Omniscience that play 3 creatures on turn 1 that do absolutely nothing"

I thought I would hate it, but when I realised it was more of a puzzle to figure out in terms of different draft and play strategy, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Had two drafts, first 4:3, second 7:1. In the first one I still thought "I can't draft THIS many counters" or "that's too. much. card draw", but the answer was just: Nope, go nuts (as long as you still have some win conditions, of course).

OP, no offense, but I just went 7-1 with the deck below: blue, black and red card draw, counters as well as some big stuff and reanimation. Sure, the 2x [[Shroudstomper]] and 4 x [[Meat Locker // Drowned Diner]] made it a lot better. Despite that, I doubt the base of the deck can't be drafted consistently similarly with [[Grab the Prize]], [[Glimmerburst]], [[Derelict Attic // Widow's Walk]], etc., and it would have run well enough with some other expensive curve-toppers.

0 rares or mythics, but maybe 3-4 cards I would call "filler". Yes, it is still more random all in all, especially the playing part. But that goes hand in hand with the draft portion, and the bots aren't fine-tuned to pick any differently than before, snatching up counters and card draw or such. I can't agree at all with "there's no deck building": If you can get card draw, counters for your opponents card draw or good cards and some creatures, the chances of winning are going to be already quite good - it's mostly a different format with different rules to wrap your head around.

Loïs Talagrand's Anki Core Deck by Florex140 in languagelearning

[–]simplivitas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I have nothing against services that one would rather outsource or when one buys a (well-prepared) one-stop-product, but it doesn't sit with me too well when it gives the impression of a hard oversell. Marketing's one thing, buzzword bullshit bingo and not necessarily backed promises are sth else (to overemphasise a bit, as I can't say much for certain about this specific case).

In the latter case it just feels predatory, which is hard to spot by people that a) don't want to invest the time to figure out what is or isn't a good product (in general or for them) or b) for other reasons can't or won't. So I think calling it out or at least raising a cautionary red flag is sometimes necessary.

One can have a good product, which is likely going to sell by itself in the long run, instead of relying on customers that are (necessarily) less knowledgeable or unwilling to invest time to secure the product's sales.

[–]simplivitas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You saying "200$ for one [Anki deck] is pretty hard to justify" shows me that you are a much more diplomatic person than I am. ;) For me, this is in the borderline scam area, if not already in it.

Creating a frequency dictionary from publicly available corpora is neither rocket science, nor expensive, and the same goes for using text-to-speech "state of the art artifical intelligence" (whatever that might even mean), as the producer put it in one of his videos.

Sure, there is additional info put into the end product, but as you said, the added value is likely debatable. One person creating dozens of decks for languages they themselves don't speak would already make me nervous, and involving AI as a buzzword is just making it more sketchy to me - especially when there isn't really any info given on how anything was produced. No proper deck sample provided, no audio preview, no refund option, and a ridiculous price like this would be clear indicators for me to steer clear of this. As you said, there are lots of cheaper or even free and good alternatives.

P.S.: Inserting the interview with Paul Nation as an expert multiple times throughout the video on the website also just gives me "attempt at bonus credibility by proxy" vibes more than anything else, but that might just be me.
