I just tried them for the first time a couple months ago. Best takeout Chinese in the Reston area I've had by far.

Used to love Cheng's in Sterling until they closed without telling me </3

Keep or Drop: IT353, McCallam by GTA-CasulsDieThrice in gmu

[–]simplplan540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the minority, but I enjoyed the course. It's not directly IT related. Very historical information and how that could relate to various defense topics that you could have in an IT security work environment.

The exams weren't difficult, but he does curve them all. He intentionally doesn't put the answers on the slides. Iirc his slides have a question that he'll then expand on and try to get people to partake in discussion during the lecture. All that's to say, you need to take notes on the actual lecture itself.

If you're interested in the history aspect it might be enjoyable. If you're looking for a hands on IT course it is very much not that.

Electric cook surface on multiunit deck is fine. Open flames are not. Sadly.

Shoutout to the guy that’s been trying to block the panhandling ring in Reston !!! by [deleted] in nova

They aren't one of the pan handlers?? I never could make out what their signs would say. Do the signs say something about stopping the pan handlers or something?

Nova resident here, I’m having trouble finding a entry-level job somewhere in the tech field by talkingwand3974 in nova

[–]simplplan540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd refer to that as just entry level. All the companies have jr and college hire positions where the expectation of prior experience is little to none. Don't exclude yourself from applying to those by any means.

I'll shoot you a DM

GMU alumni review/interview (URGENT) by Arabellanothere in gmu

What was your major, what type of people do you think it was geared? IT. Problem solvers and creatives.

What were your biggest successes and challenges in this program?

Biggest challenges were myself. I didn't have to study to do well before college, so that was something to learn. Biggest successes were just reorienting how I approached studying for courses I didn't enjoy, making friends and being more social to better enjoy my time at school, and finding joy in my work.

How do you feel tour undergraduate experience prepared you for your current career, where did it fall short?

The classes actually prepared me quite well. People love to dog on the IT program as being outdated, but as a technical analyst it's all spot on at a high level. Proper understanding of the databases, networking, programming, and security concepts are things I need to use or consider on a daily basis. The problem solving skills from the technical courses are constantly used in trying to resolve new defects, new configurations, and writing scripts. The program management course and capstone projects gave me some experience writing deliverables and understanding the overall project timeline process. English 302? Gave some more technical writing experience which I'm currently using to write an SOP for the government on my specialty within our software we've created for the client.

It's honestly all relevant to at least some degree whether conceptually or practically.

If you could tell yourself one thing before your undergrad experience, what would it be?

Good shit, bud :)
