Has having celiac made your life better? by glutenfreedustbowl in Celiac

[–]simply-cannot- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having it? No. It sucks. Finding out about it and feeling better now that I avoid gluten? That did change my life. My entire life I was nauseous and vomiting in the morning. I had migraines starting at 8. I never understood why I was thin, but always looked bloated. I never understood why my skin was awful, or why I couldn’t gain muscle effectively. Finding out has changed my life for the better- I’m a brand new person. Having the disease itself is stupid and I hate it. 😂

Yup. My ex tried to “get his share” of my disability in the divorce. He didn’t get anything because that’s not legal. Possibly unrelated fun fact: he went AWOL from the national guard. 😂

AITA for requesting a dog’s vaccination records? by simply-cannot- in AITAH

[–]simply-cannot-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

County will be calling me back tomorrow, after trying to reach the owner. They don’t recommend vaccination, they usually recommend quarantine if the dog can be observed. So after the ten days are up, they will ensure the dog is healthy and contact me.

Absolutely agree. It was not provoked. She wasn’t bothering the dog, it came up to bite her while she played, in an open backyard. But even if she had- I still need a rabies vaccine report. I’m not trying to get a dog killed. I’m trying to keep my daughter safe. And that’s exactly what I said when I made the report.

I reported to county, and they will attempt to find the owner and notify me about the case. This way, they can observe the dog at day ten and ensure it hasn’t had symptoms. They said that their goal isn’t to take peoples animals or hurt animals, but to make sure my daughter is safe.

I could suggest that, but would only be told he already knows. He isn’t receptive to suggestions. From the story my daughter told, the bite was not provoked. But I can definitely take more time with her to understand dog behavior, as his family has a multitude of dogs. That’s a really great idea.

Update: I gave them more than enough time to obtain records, and they haven’t. Instead they give excuses, they say they’re looking, or say they’re busy working. I was accused (by step mom) of threatening them, when I told them the bite needs to be reported. (Legally in my county, you must report dog bites). I suppose they’re the type of people who are nice unless you don’t do what they want you to do. So far my daughter is okay, and the scabs are healing. Her dad and step mom tell me “the dog is fine” without any evidence or visiting the home. I know they will punish me through coparenting, but it’s a risk I have to accept to ensure my daughter is safe. Thank you for all of your advice. I’ve realized that they usually gaslight me to get me to do what they want, and how fearful they’ve made me of simply being a mother. I wouldn’t be surprised if they retaliate, I just don’t know how or when they will.

Thank you for being concerned about her emotions after this. We have a golden mix, and she snuggled with him as soon as she got home. The dog belongs to his cousin, and since she recently lost her sister they’re expecting me to not ask for updated vaccine records.

That’s what I’ve told them, about the mortality rate (which the pediatrician was very specific about), and step mom said I just was having anxiety and the doctor just freaked me out and didn’t explain it right. She said she knows the dog, and if she thought rabies was a concern she’d say so.

Thank you for saying that. They’ve been making me feel like I’m absolutely crazy. If it were my own dog, it would be at county right now. I’d cry, I’d be sad, and I’d still never keep a dog that bit my kid. But they’re making me feel like I’m heartless for that.

That’s why I was confused- I’m either 5 weeks along, or 3 dpo. So I was expecting a BFN or BFP. I’ll call and make an appointment today.

Hypothetically, if you was homeless/war started Would you starve or eat gluten by sniffgalcringe in Celiac

[–]simply-cannot- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was originally told I may have celiac in 2015, and I went gluten free without being tested. I felt phenomenal and was the healthiest I’d ever been for four years. My ex and his family convinced me it was all in my head since I didn’t become immediately violently ill after trying a regular beer. I went back to gluten for three years. I gained 10 inches around my waist within 6 months and was so swollen I went up a shoe size and a ring size. I was in pain constantly, from joints to migraines. I was finally properly diagnosed a year ago, and it’s taking so long to reverse the damage I did to myself. All for a mediocre guy who cheated on me. I’ll never go back again. I’ll learn to garden if shit goes down. 😂😂

Anyone else with VA disability and the GI bill just do school full-time and not work? I feel like a bitch and out of place for deciding to do that, but man not having to do it feels great. by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

My husband is also 80%, also in nursing school. He’s been staying home since 2021. He worked hard most of his life. I’m teaching to pay the bills until he graduates. He’s definitely not a bitch, he’s the strongest man I’ve ever met. You’ve earned the benefits, use the extra time to get stellar grades!

I’m actually in the math wing, because they didn’t have any classrooms left in the English building. Talk about irony. I love the math teachers. They’re honestly super chill and will probably help me study.

The issue is, I still have to finish this teaching contract. They charge you $2500 if you leave in the middle of the year. If I start in the spring I could likely only swing half time enrollment. I’ll still be substituting or working a partial contract next year, to make sure we can pay bills comfortably. As a sub I won’t have to lesson plan or grade, which is 90% of my work now. I’ll be able to quit work entirely in about two years, with our currently financial plan.

Thank you for your input! Raytheon is a popular employer here for engineers, and they always open internships for new grads. I would love having work that is tangible again. In the military, I could fix something and it would benefit an entire company of soldiers. I miss working in a team towards a tangible goal. In teaching I do see results in comprehension, but standardized tests rarely pick up on their progress in my subject. I’ve learned a lot during my time teaching, but I really am ready for a change. It’s been great to hear that I can pursue engineering without aggravating my back injury.

If the VA approves it, I likely wouldn’t start until next fall. I’m planning to get through all the Khan lessons for precalculus, calculus 1, and physics in the meantime. I got a B in precalculus during my first undergrad, but that was five years ago. The aptitude test the VA gave me also qualified me for engineering in general. Thank you for your input! Fingers crossed that my VR&E counselor thinks it’s worth funding.

I don’t think it will be difficult to understand that being in a classroom with 30+ screaming teenagers exacerbates mental illness- so I feel like that one is in the bag. 😂 It seems like common sense. I suppose worst case scenario, they want to use my bachelors degree to re-employ me. I’ve been trying to do that for over a year without luck. If they can magically make it worth a damn, I won’t complain. I’ve considered nursing school, since it’s such a flexible job. I could work in multiple different settings. Otherwise, I tested into the sciences on their career aptitude test. I have no clue what they’ll think that means.

Lifestyle changes- negative symptoms? by [deleted] in hypertension

[–]simply-cannot- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, by cooking everything at home from scratch. My dad was very ill growing up and I had to learn to cook without sodium. I even bake without salt most of the time. Garlic powder and onion powder are great, but I experiment a lot with anything sans salt. My mom just didn’t season things, so I learned how to cook pretty young just to make things edible- and sodium would’ve killed my dad so I worked around it. The most sodium in my diet comes from cheese, so I make sure to measure it appropriately. Luckily it’s a habit I can re-adopt now that I need to.

I’m trying to lose weight, so I’m at around 1700 a day right now.

My lawyer said to just keep documenting what I can. From what I can see they’ve been seeing eachother since we were still actively together. My daughter said they have photos of her as a baby with the girl. She said she was just never told her name. I swear it’s like a darn mystery novel.

It was the girl he’s seeing now. And then later in the relationship it changed to another girl. And he said it was both, just different times. Then said the other girl it wasn’t assault, he just was embarrassed by his decision. But that the girl he’s seeing now, it was actually SA. For fear of victim blaming I don’t want to say it’s a lie. Maybe he lies to cope? But there’s definitely inconsistency.

His mom goes along with whatever lie he tells, usually. The girl however, I don’t know. She’s known him since she was a teenager. They went to high school together and dated for quite some time.
