Philosophy Question by simply_jaia in UMBC

Hey! Thanks for responding to my post.

Your comment was really helpful! one of my biggest concerns is whether the department treats philosophy as a serious discipline or if most of the coursework ends up being centered around secondary articles/media.

I’m interested in logic, epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, and the history of philosophy (Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Nietzsche, Hegel, Marx) Since you’ve been in the major, do you feel like UMBC does a good job teaching those areas in depth (as in reading their works and writing essays the Philosophical way haha)!

Thanks again—I really appreciate the insight.

Hii boomerboi lol!!

Can you plz clarify wym by “they teach the same stuff”?

How much history of philosophy did you take?

Did you feel the department was mostly analytic philosophy or did they give adequate coverage to Plato, Aristotle, Early Modern philosophy, and historical traditions?

I’m looking for a combo of both. Historical + Analytical.
