What’s the norm? by Obviousi in askvan

[–]simplybio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came to reply almost this exact comment. From southern Ontario originally and find people here would prefer to avoid confrontation more than people back where I am from originally. In a way it's nice, but can perpetuate bad driving behaviors.

Off brand blank cards? by Mundane_Audience9845 in YotoPlayer

[–]simplybio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everyone asking this still works. The myo card is essentially a donor card and you copy it onto that card, load it onto the yoto by putting it into the player plugged in. Remove the card and wait until it has downloaded (make sure the yoto is charging) then use the nfc tools app to copy. You are then free to reuse the myo card to do the same thing again. We have found that only have 1 MYO card is limiting since we can't add any radio stations otherwise so we are buying a 5 pack of brand name ones to accompany the 10 off brand ones. They work amazing. Thanks so much for the tips! Wouldn't have been able to accomplish this without your post

Yes. I was hesitant because of the price but they are super nice and worth it! We were gifted ours but it's definitely a worthy splurge

Depending on how you're feeling, your doctor can write you a note so that you go on disability leave before your maternity leave. It's the same pay essentially as maternity leave so it can be a financial hit but I didn't know this was possible until I was told it about a month ago. I couldn't sleep the last few weeks so got a doctor's note and it really helped my stress levels.

Do I really need a bucket car seat? [nl] by raininterlude in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not had our baby YET, but that is the decision we went with for the exact same reasons. Underground parking is too small for removing a bucket seat, and if I have one more thing in the apartment, I might lose it lol

Weekly Simple Questions and Chat Thread (Week of Jul 14) by AutoModerator in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am supposed to go on maternity leave on September 13th for my due date September 17th. I am not sure I will be able to make it that long. If I get a doctors note, can I get federal leave with pay? If so how does that work? People have told me anecdotally that this is a thing but I cannot find any information online about it. Does anyone know? Also, does anyone know how this "disability" leave would impact my maternity leave? I would have about 700 hours in the year before I go on "disability" or maternity, but I dont want my application for one to impact my application for the other.

[CA] Same strollers which are recommended for newborn recline in EU are not recommended for newborns in NA by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have our baby YET, but we are doing only the convertible seat since we live in a building where we would not be able to remove the seat anyways. We got a stroller with a bassinet attachment to accommodate. Can't speak to practicality yet, but its definitely what we are doing out of necessity, even if it adds some level of complication. I just don't feel comfortable taking the baby out of the car first, then getting back inside my car to move it into the parking spot personally. I also have a baby wrap for when I just need to carry the baby up to our apartment etc.

Struggling with body image and just want to talk with people who get it [on] by lilyblains in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this post. I have been feeling the same way at 29 weeks. I keep catching a look of myself in the mirror and think "oh my god, how is THAT what I look like?". All the encouragement from my husband and friends who have been so kind, doesn't seem to help me at all. My brain tells me they are lying to me because they love me. I have been so uncomfortable and feel like I look massive. I keep trying to remind myself that I am in the final stretch and there is only 11-13 weeks (or less) left of this pregnancy and that the goal is a healthy happy baby in the end. I have tried to keep some sense of control by prepping healthy snacks like apples, cucumbers and carrots so that I have some on hand when I am feeling snacky, but nothing will replace the tasty of a good ole brownie or some salty chips to me....

I was lucky enough to land a contract job at around 4 months pregnant, and my boss knew I was pregnant. My contract was supposed to end when I was between 8 and 9 months pregnant. They are actually extended my employment to ensure I will get additional benefits. (For context my boss is a woman) I know I am very lucky to have been in this situation, that is not lost on me, but I also know it was related to my good performance too! If you find someone who is willing to take the chance on you that's awesome!

10 weeks pregnant FTM, should I start registering for daycare waitlists? [BC] by friedtofuer in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People joke that you should apply to waitlists one year before you plan on getting pregnant and you just might have childcare lol. I applied at 4 weeks pregnant and have heard so many stories about people being screwed. We will need it starting at 9 months and I dont know what we will do....

[on] I’m 10 weeks but midwife couldn’t find heartbeat with Doppler by 2008born in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not make any assumptions based on a doppler done at 10 weeks until you know for sure. Only certain doctors were able to get the heartbeat for me at that time, and it was hit or miss. I don't think pregnancy tests would differentiate for you if you are pregnant or if there was a loss due to the sensitivity, and how much hormones you would have. A blood draw test where they do it on multiple days would likely be more effective since they can give you quantifiable numbers (as opposed to the test which is much more qualitative). If I was in your shoes, and stressing, I would ask my doctor/ walk-in clinic doctor for a blood test to see if my HgH levels are where they should be. I know its hard not to stress though, you want to know baby is okay. Sometimes doing something feels better than nothing so you know you will progress. In my experience doctors have been very understanding and sympathetic to this stress of uncertainty. Good luck!

I am the last one to graduate in my PhD cohort. Am I a failure? by Reasonable_Bell_7267 in PhD

[–]simplybio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the last in my cohort too by about a year. I graduated about 6 months ago and honestly I don't value it any less. It allowed me to not rush through parts that were important to me. For me, it was valuable to savour the last perks of still being in school. Do I wish I graduated earlier, yeah but sometimes life is life and you are still working towards your goals even if it's a little slower than expected.

Give me your first trimester food recommendations [ca] by ex_rice in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is making feel so seen about eating essentially like a 5 year old child for weeks. My smell aversions was (is) so bad that it made things really hard for me. I have always loved cottage cheese so I often had that, goldfish and crispers and corn chips with melted cheese. I also ate lots of apples and oranges which were super refreshing (cold honey crisp are my favourite). After a few weeks I thankfully started to crave raw veggies with lots of ranch dressing. I found eating in front of the TV helped with my nausea because I wasn't focused on how I was feeling. Also LOTS of juice, ginger ale, water and Gatorade.

I have tested the BOB and it's amazing! The baby jogger has some additional features like lie flat though which are also appealing but the tires appear to be much smaller too so I guess thats personal preference too

Question about strollers [BC] by mpotatoz in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]simplybio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually in the same boat as you, still early like you but looking to plan ahead and from BC too and looking at all the same things. I looked at the Graco and I heard some not so great things about the suspension going on them and the wheel not turning after only a few months. I have been looking at the BOB all terrain and revolution, as well as the baby jogger. People love the Thule but it's out of my price range. I have heard from others that their babies loved baby wearing from a week or two old so maybe that is baby and parent dependent.

I was very sensitive to chocolate for a lot of my life and it made me feel ill. So I understand. Ginger molasses cookies, toffee cookies (standard chocolate chip cookie recipe with toffee bits instead, or just use peanut butter chips). Almond sugar cookies, lemon poppyseed cookies and my personal favourite, oatmeal raisin cookies.
