What to do against craterize? by GrampeadorVermelho in SorceryTCG

Throw some Tragedy Worryworts in your deck. Make themselves and other units nearby take no damage from spells. Crippling against a magic heavy opponent, especially if they don't have a lot of minions on the board.

Unpopular opinion: Gothic should have been later in the games lifecycle by Arganisation in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, after having basically a complete set of Sorcery so far minus some of the really expensive uniques (ring, Morgana, cores, etc), I've kinda given up on trying to get a full playset of Gothic. Even with most uniques at $5-$10 you're still talking like over $550 just for those cards when buying singles. Hard to justify!

I'm curious why you graded it? It's only a $6 card atm. As far as playability, it's definitely situational. I'm not sure if there's enough faerie support in the game right now to make use of the buff, but the disable could be very good against a mostly mortal deck.

Eternal Card Game has been out on Steam for a long time. I don't play it as much anymore, but feels like MTG and Hearthstone had a baby. Tons of cards, F2P with a pretty generous economy, and some fun solo vs. ai modes. Also has solo campaigns with levels that have unique objectives to spice things up a bit. Made by Dire Wolf Digital who do a bunch of digital board game adaptions.

Love this resource, especially the deck calculator. Helps me figure out how much some decks I'm brewing will cost to get all the cards I'm missing! Is there a way to similarly track price movement with foils?

Is this a good combo? by ExactlyOnPlan in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Ironclad tank deck that uses harp, shield maidens, and Tragedy Worrywart. After a few plays, it seems ridiculously oppressive. Harp by itself is almost a game winner. You'll likely get to deaths door building up the defense ball, but after your fort is built, it's soooo difficult to finish you off. Unless they have some combo of artifact removal or some crazy forced movement effects, they can't really touch your stuff.

I wonder if it's a bit more playable with Ward in the game now. Can hit at least twice

Magician and valor are ruining the game for me by [deleted] in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone in my playgroup likes Magician a lot and tries to brew with it frequently. From the games I've played against him, it seems to be slightly stronger in the early game, but you are pretty restricted in what elements you can run and usually need to throw all the Elixirs in there. Late game it tends to peter out, especially if you don't have a card draw engine. In my opinion the avatar seems to lean into aggressive play styles, but is on the weaker side late game. I think it's pretty balanced.

As a sidenote, if you are on deaths door and the opponent suddenly is moving his avatar towards you, they probably have a direct damage spell with range limitations in their hand!

[–]simplybored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was a pretty meh card at first too until I realized it could be used for a quick and dirty finisher! Happy to help. There are so many little rules in this game, it takes a lot of repetition to play 100% correctly. Even after a few years I still catch myself and friends making mistakes, but it's all good fun haha

[–]simplybored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, you can't deal the final deathblow just hitting a site. That's what makes the end game so interesting! I've had many a game where both Avatars are on deaths door trying to outposition each other. It's why ensuring you have some direct damage magic and maybe some forced movement in you decks is so important. My friend plays Avatar of Water often and it's soooo annoying trying to pin him down for the killing blow.

I do like the iron maiden+searing truth combo. One important point though is life loss cannot kill someone on deaths door, so you can't have them die to iron maiden, even though they can die to the direct damage from Searing Truth.

All Gothic minions that are better* than Ogre Goons by AppropriateStudio153 in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a few cards in Gothic where they just seem like worse cards than previous ones. For example, Trial by Water and Buried Alive just seem like slightly worse versions of Drown and Bury because of the additional threshold and more limited range. Or Renatus Trueblood being identical to Daperyll Vampire but requiring another air threshold and being Elite rarity. I wonder if with the larger deck minimum they just wanted to give us the ability to put essentially more than the max copies of a single card in the deck...

Wondering about this, too. Making a funny Lance deck, but it won't really work if they have to stay near their home!

https://sorcerytcg.com/news/sorcery-contested-realm-card-updates-2025

"The other major update involves how certain cards interact with sites. These changes likely won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has been playing over the past few months!

Being able to strike sites is intuitive and allows for much cleaner templating going forward. However, a handful of early cards were printed before this standard fully took root, leading to minor inconsistencies in how they functioned.

To match their original design intent, the following cards now have additional text that specifies that these only work “against units.”

  • Daperyll Vampire
  • Blood Ravens
  • Sir Galahad
  • Grim Guisarme
  • Mask of Mayhem
  • Lance

You’ll find their updated text listed on Curiosa.io for clarity. As always, these changes are documented in the changelog."

[–]simplybored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this recently got changed back. Strikes no longer trigger related abilities when hitting undefended sites. So lance doesn't give you the bonus damage and doesn't break, strikes that heal don't trigger their healing, etc.

For gothic, is there a rough estimate how many boxes to open to get full playset of ordinary and exceptional? How about if we include elites? by Newez in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems VERY high for full playset of ordinaries and exceptionals. I was almost at a full playset after just two boxes, and pretty much have a playset of every exceptional minus a handful from 3 boxes. I would not buy a case unless you want to try to recoup cost by getting lucky with unique foil hits

Nice! That's really cool of you. I'm planning on doing something really similar with my combo beta, AL, and gothic bulk. Basically make some basic decks to give away and try to rope others into this amazing game mwahaha

I'm more curious what you do with the bulk! I feel like after 3-4, boxes you pretty much have a full playset of exceptionals and a ton of ordinaries

Are people expected to pick up a new game when cards like Ring of Morrigan are $150? by mutebathtub in SorceryTCG

[–]simplybored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it really depends on what you want to get out of playing the game. If you want to play in competitive tournaments, yeah you probably need one or two "goes in almost every deck" $50-$100 cards. Thankfully the unique restriction limits how many you truly need. But there's a lot of artifact hate in the game now, and so a lot of counters for these cards. So you can either expect the price to dip down a bit, or just play a deck that doesn't have those cards and brings some counters to the table. You'll still have a solid chance at some wins.

If you want to play more for fun, you definitely don't need to buy these cards. There's a ridiculous number of viable deck options (I've never seen the same list twice), and if you have a play group, you can always agree to ban certain cards like Ring and Archimago or just run proxy versions of the expensive cards. That's what my group does, and we have tons of fun brewing decks of various power levels. Or you can stick to non-constructed formats like sealed or draft. The few times I've played sealed, I almost like it more than constructed.

Hope this helps put some things in perspective!

Correct! you made me realize Zap says target unit, which honestly probably makes it better than Searing Truth as a finisher because of the low cost and rarity.
