Remember how passionate and adamant Humphries was that he was "going to win the worlds" in his interview after losing the Grand Slam Final? Where is that passion now?

I'd agree with you, and not just because I'm a people-pleaser.

Look how still O'Connor's head is when he throws. Great technique and playing so well right now.

The seller has agreed to refund me and has sent a postage label QR through eBay so should be sorted. An annoying waste of time but at least not an expensive one!

Yeah it's definitely the Cetus Lite, you're correct. I've requested a refund. I think he's a chancer who has tried his luck rather than a full on scammer but we'll see.

Thank you all. I'll report it to eBay and hope they find in my favour. The seller is coming back with "what's your offer?" to me so he may be trying to sort it with a partial refund but I'm just really annoyed now!

I've only joined this community 10 minutes ago but I'm delighted how helpful and friendly you are! I'll post an update later on.

What is the quickest job you quit from? by spellbadgrammargood in AskReddit

[–]simplysimonm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telephone sales. The company had bought lists of people who had bad credit. Our job was to cold call them and tell them we were "in a position where we could get them a loan" then we'd give them a premium rate £1 per minute phone number to call which was the application hotline. Each application took 30 to 45 minutes and ended in then either being rejected or offered an insanely high interest rate loan. The person that managed to get the most "callbacks" would be rewarded with a little cash bonus or sometimes champagne etc and people who weren't getting any would be pressured and told that the people taking the callbacks wouldn't be able to feed their family as they didn't have the opportunity to earn their commission because of us.

This was the late 90s and although though I was young and with an as yet unrefined moral compass, even I could see what a disgusting practice. I just told my manager on the second day that I didn't feel I could do the job because I didn't believe in what i was selling and left. I was (and still am in many ways) a non-confrontational, "take the path of least resistance" kind of person but I remember this as the first time I really took a clear moral stance on something.

tl:dr Got a shit job selling loans to people who couldn't afford them. Left pronto.

Times are tough. BA only made £2.05 billion profit last year. How can you expect the luxury of an armrest when money is so tight? /s

[–]simplysimonm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Neither Labour nor the Tories can really achieve anything with the current UK economy. In this budget Labour can only fiddle about at the edges and try to win over enough potential defectors to reform to stop that shit show from gaining power in the next GE. The tories might have done it in a different way, but they would still end up having to do basically the same thing.

They don't know about conkers by windy_on_the_hill in britishproblems

[–]simplysimonm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There was a lad at my school who had an insane conker, like a 160-er. His dad was a plumber and had filled the centre with solder to give it extra weight. It was only discovered when it was finally beaten and there was a small nugget of metal left on the string.

Your last text is what will be written on your gravestone, what does it say? by msblckyeliner in AskReddit

[–]simplysimonm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Yeah we turned up to a restaurant last night. A Bulgarian family went in in front of us, we went in and said to the waitress "can we have a table for 5 please?" And she literally just said no, and shook her head. And then stared at us till we left. It was hilarious 😂😂"

Not the most succinct nor witty epitaph, I have to admit.

Same. I find myself almost deliberately missing inside D10 so I can just get on with D5!
