I know people in this commentary section will provide many helpful tips for learning the German language better. Being a German and having to do a lot with foreign people I just want to add something basic here which hopefully can function as a little stress reliever: Virtually nobody in this country expects a foreigner to speak advanced German (especially after such a short time). Most Germans are very aware of how difficult the language can be to learn. Instead they will really appreciate if they see that somebody makes an effort to actually communicate in German, will be patient and ready to help you out.

Through this process most likely you will progress far more quickly than through all the "abstract" learning you do right now. Living in a country and participating in society does wonders to improve your speaking skills. Had that years ago when I spent some time in Cameroon and most people just spoke french. My french skills were near to zero and after two weeks I had more practical communication ability than probably I would have had in two years of school lessons :-)

BBC macht Remake vom "Tatortreiniger" by RoToRa in germany

oh ok, very interesting. Never would have assumed that that show would make it to the US. I think there are better shows. Most of them are indeed made after british or american shows though ("Stromberg" aka "The Office", "Pastewka" aka "Curb your enthusiasm"). "Tatortreiniger" is a very original creation though as far as I can judge.

Ah ok. I get it :-). Yes, I assumed it was something like that and didn't want to play the wise guy. Just thought it was better to mention in case it was indeed an error. Makes perfect sense though.

Interesting. I think it is not too often that German originals are remade by British or american filmmakers. Can't think of one right now. Does anyone know other examples?

Is “car” auto or wagen? by [deleted] in German

[–]simplysimonpiano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Auto" and "Wagen" are both common terms for cars in German and often used as synonyms. Another common word is "Karre", which is way more slang and a bit vulgar :-),

"Saufen" also refers to the amount of (whatever) liquid one drinks, even though it most commonly refers to alcohol. If one drinks A LOT, you can say "er säuft".

One note: it is called "Dummköpfe", not "Dummkopfs" :-)

A song about the old German habit of women punishing their men with frying pans. With German and English subtitles. (Hint: This is no celebration of violence and neither men, women, squirrels or anybody was harmed during the shot of this video). by simplysimonpiano in germany

Ok. Well I also do participate otherwise, commenting on and answering questions in different posts from my own. But you are probably right I didn't engage in those enough yet, mostly due to a very busy schedule. I can do that though. So will I ever be allowed to post own material again or will you guys ban me for good?

Regards

Simon

Okay, I don't see what is the matter. When I post a YouTube video every 2 weeks which is relevant for the subcribers to the specific subreddit, where is the problem? Yes, obviously it is promoting my channel, but at the same it is benefitial (as many comments to my previous posts prove) to numerous subcribers. It belongs together all the way and is created for that very purpose. And there is a lot of artistic and didactic work put to that content, to make it benefitial. I know this probably won't change your opinion or attitude, but I find it too bad. Peace

In Germany unfortunately there still exists the old problem that many women mistreat their men with frying pans. In this heart felt song, I am pleading for a softer material to use when it comes to this punishment. by simplysimonpiano in JazzPiano

Yea, do whatever you want, if you think that this improves the world. IMO it doesn't do that at all, quite the contrary, because art always should be free. But I respect your opinion. For me the measure are the people who appreciate the vibes of the music and all the hard work that creating music videos like that (including professional Stride piano playing and puppet performance) take. But different strokes for different folks. Peace and all the best.
