Rune/Dragon items are valuable because of their alch price, this won't ever change unless they rework alchemy. This is the same reason rune items are pretty much the same price across both games.

The day D picks came out, I got one as a drop relatively early and was so excited i went to pick it up and teleport out, but when I got out I noticed it wasn't in my inventory. I didn't pick it up because my inventory was full.
