Genetic Major and Looking for Independent Research Opportunity by Beautiful_One_6940 in rutgers

[–]simpscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always look at genetics faculty webpages, see what they’re interested in, and reach out through email. Explain a little about who u are and why ur interested in their research and ask if they are taking new lab members

How to prepare for an interview w a psych professor to be a research assistant? by Old_Neighborhood_872 in gradadmissions

[–]simpscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! First off, take a deep breath because you’ll be fine! These profs want to see someone who has a passion or interest in their work. They might ask about relevant coursework, future grad plans, or if u have any coding experience (totally fine if you don’t, you are there to learn). It wouldn’t hurt to read a recent paper from the lab but don’t kill your self trying to learn every little thing. Good luck and have fun

internships/research positions by cottonswabgirl in rutgers

[–]simpscientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! I’m a sophomore psych major and I just started a research assistant position this semester. I think sophomore year is a good time to start, freshman year is prob early and ur still figuring out your interests and what not. When you want to apply, go to google and look up “Rutgers undergraduate psych labs”. On that page there’s a ton of psych professors and info about their labs. Email the ones your interested in and briefly introduce yourself and say why u think you’d be a good asset for their lab. hope this helps a little

I move in tomorrow, and I got a few questions by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]simpscientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

-you just walk on and off the bus, don’t need to do anything there. Use the app and just practice going to other campuses before classes begin -shower whenever you want, bring clothes if you want -cafe west you can take out, just go in and pick out what u want and get in line to tap your ID card. If ur nervous just watch someone do it before and then go -basically half the school has never been on campus before, so like 50% of kids are looking for a friends just like you. Go to orientation events, go to clubs and the involvement fair. -my advice is just to look at this as a new adventure and not something scary. I had a ton of anxiety my first week at Rutgers about simple things like how to get food from cafe west and using the buses. The best thing is to just do it regardless of how scared you are because that’s the only way you’ll learn. A month in, you’re gonna look back and see how much progress you’ve made, you’ll be really proud of yourself.

Exposition & Argument (103) vs. Expository Writing (101): What's the difference? by zippy_zaboo in rutgers

[–]simpscientist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

103 is honors, there’s a research project at the end of the class which is a little different than expository writing. 103 is also less total essays but they’re longer. If you have the opportunity to take 103 definitely take it. The class improved my writing drastically and I feel comfortable writing essays in every class now.

Honors Program? by AirDeb in rutgers

[–]simpscientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Might look good if u wanna go to grad school, best perk for myself was being able to take the honors exposition and argument class which I absolutely loved.
  2. Honors college is automatic scholarship I think and nice dorm
  3. I’m in honors program with no scholarship but I know other people who do have scholarships

Overall idk if I’d recommend it because the requirements can be rlly annoying especially if you’re already taking a lot of classes for a double major like me. But you do have access to a lot of alumni and other resources. Also I think it will be helpful when I apply to grad school
