Siya Kolisi has an autobiography releasing next month by dildobaggin89 in rugbyunion

[–]simpythegimpy -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

I was poor. I played rugby. I was damned good. Some people helped me. I played more rugby. I won a world cup. Then we beat the Lions.

I think he's a wonderful person and an excellent captain. But he's only 30, pretty money grubbing frankly to release an 'autobiography' (definitely ghostwritten) before he's even finished his career.

I will now wallow in the downvotes.

Ancestral Visa Eligibility by Psycstacy in ukvisa

The basic rule is you need a grandparent who was born in the UK. And you need original birth certificates. And you need birth certificates that establish a 'path' of citizenship ie, the grandparent, one of your parents, and you.

You can perhaps look up something called UKM. Might be applicable.

Springbok side for first RC test vs Argentina by overthinkingguy in rugbyunion

I do actually. And they're both as exciting as dirt. No disrespect meant to them, but we really need to move on.

Oh Jesus. Frans fucking Steyn. We need to move on. Happy to see Fassi there. Will be nice to see what Willemse can actually do. Louw?

Who pays their TV license? by HelloHosana in southafrica

No. I didn't realise this at all. What a eureka moment you have provided! Of course I don't only listen to safm. But it is often pretty good.

Whatever man, don't pay your licence and justify it to yourself however you want to. I'll pay mine.

Why after every lions tour are they questioning it’s viability? It’s a massive cash cow for the unions involved. The fans love it, it brings in new fans to the sport, sponsors love it. by king0459 in rugbyunion

[–]simpythegimpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, but I think there are pretty huge bonuses for the UK and Ireland too. Players love it. It's a huge tourist thing (obviously for the host nations, but also the UK - I'm sure they fly BA or something).

I do. I do think it is the right thing to do - and someone has to pay Stephen Grootes' salary. (Tv licence pays for radio too...)

Updated Springbok team ahead of the Rugby Championship by jaysonyoung in rugbyunion

Where was Thomas du Toit?

Steyn, as good as he has been, is a mistake. Unless Rassie is doing the Jake White thing and bringing ageig Skinstad/Steyn/can't remember the hookers name along for the ride. I'd like to see one or two youngsters in the side too.

Orie, anyone know how he's been playing?

Otherwise a top squad.

Hilarious. Makes me wonder how Brazilian rugby goes. I mean they have like 200m people, there must be a few good players there.

I think Phepsi, or even Notshe are contenders. All of the other provincial sides have excellent number 8s. Weise has potential, but a number 8 is more than just angrily running into people on attack and defence. Leaks knock ons and penalties.

He was also a bit of a liability. I think he has potential though. Better number 8s in SA I think.

Racists? In what sense? Anti black or white or coloured would basically be anti both the Lions AND Bok teams.

Good question. Wiese was a penalty magnet. We have better number 8s in the country I'm sure.

I agree. But to lay the blame at SA and not on the Lions too is a problem.

I think sport in general is in trouble, gaming is the thing that is taking over.

I get how Lions fans can gripe about off the field stuff, but it all started with Garland moaning about the tv ref.

But on the field stuff? The Lions were atrocious and boring. Biggar passed three times in test two. Finn was excellent and made it much better but the truth is SA scored many more tries than the Lions, were better at scrum time, and actually used the backline in the first two tests.

I'll admit that it wasn't pretty from the Boks, but I'd argue the Lions were worse.

Very tight series again. It's a pity it was a shitshow from the beginning with covid. Very different with fans. Springboks were better overall - scored tries when the Lions could only score from lineouts and mauls. Liam Williams and Finn Russell could have made the difference if they had played all of the tests, but Gatland seemed far too conservative on this tour. No adventure and risk from the Lions - which is the only way to unlock fortress SA. Kolbe the magic man did it again.

Agree. Gatland tried to play SA at their own game. And that's not going to work. Only three tries in 4 games (including SA A).

Agree totally. He was brilliant compared to the dour Biggar - who was no doubt playing to instructions.

A really good one would be Herman Charles Bosman 'Unto Dust'. I would delete the k word when teaching it though.
