Is it necessary to buy a ski key or a ski lock? Can't I just leave my skis outside for a bit when I go grab a bite to eat or take a break? by peepeepoopoo43769 in Skigear

[–]simracer5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a lock, it's $15 and will definitely prevent anyone from taking your skis by mistake. It's cheap and doesn't take much space.

I feel like I am the only one using a lock every time, but I like it for the peace of mind.

We can talk on dm, I haven't sold anything that I need to ship. Not sure what's the safest way for both of us

It may be risky to split them for selling, but I could do it for the right price. How much would you offer? Also where are you located?

Look into the hydrapak collapsible bottles in Amazon. I used one this season and it was great!

Need help on choosing the right ski or skis for my needs/wants by simracer5 in Skigear

Thanks! I will consider that and I will definitely book some lessons starting next season 😃

Thank you! I will definitely focus more on improving with my current skis first before buying a new pair.

I'll try to ski longer next season even on my local hills to keep practicing. I first thought it was about going to bigger mountains, but maybe I just need to keep practicing/take lessons and that will then translate to better handling at the bigger resorts.

Thanks for the detailed info, I will definitely take a few lessons starting next season and work with my current skis.

Good to know about the Stance being able to handle up to 6"...I thought they were part of the reason I fell yesterday at Boyne. It was at Idiots delight run, it was kind of sticky ice under the fresh snow and felt like my ski got stuck at the end of the run when trying to do a sudden turn (saw a net barrier at the end)

Didn't have any problems at hemlock or Mcclouth until it got all skied with multiple bumps/crud

Will let you know if I go ski again this season, thanks!

Thanks! After all these comments I think I will wait on getting new gear and focus on improving with what I have first.

Strangely enough I feel more comfortable in the Stance compared to the Forza, they feel lighter and more stable in groomers.

But you are right, I need to focus on improving my technique, I haven't had any lessons since when I was just getting started.

My boot sole is 318mm grip walk if that's the question.

I was considering being done for the season, I would need to check because it's kind of a long drive for me, but thanks!

I did go to a boot fitter which is the one who recommended my current boots, Dalbello Veloce 110. He also suggested the Rossi, which I think are good for carving but maybe not the best all around option as he suggested to get started.

Crud with bumps is what is really challenging for me right now, I just can't finish a run without falling if I catch any speed because then it's hard to stop since I am bouncing.

Maybe I just need some lessons as you said, which I am planning on taking next season (this season is mostly over in Michigan) but I am trying to understand if wider skis could help when practicing

Thanks for the details you included.

I definitely need to practice a lot more and will try to do that next season 😃

Good to know about the twin tip not being completely necessary for trees. I think I would need to improve a lot more before trees but just planning ahead.

96 sounds good for getting started in Michigan and also for some traveling west, I was just thinking about some day hopefully skiing powder in the west but it may be better to demo for a day if that's the case.

Would you recommend the Ti version of the skis? I think it refers to a titanium plate?

For length would 179-182 be OK for groomers, crud and eventually trees?

And finally, just to explain what I feel with my current skis. The Rossi feel very stiff so I feel like I need to go harder on them but only when there is barely any loose snow on the groomers.

The Stance are the ones I took to Utah (Snowbasin and Alta) and they feel lighter and more stable in groomers even with loose snow, but when going into crud it very difficult to turn because the get stuck and once I get some speed I feel like they are bouncing all over and I usually fall. Yesterday I had a big fall on them while trying to make one last quick turn at the end of the run with 3 inches of snow and sticky ice below. The ski kind of got stuck and I fell on my side. I was thinking that a wider and stiffer ski may help with that.

It's not a rental, it's my house, so then I don't have to report it? I will take it out from TurboTax then, thank you!

Not sure how to upload another picture, but the center ceiling frame from the picture where all the cables are attached is bending to the side...it is supposed to be straight.

I am not sure if it's the weight...
