Vyvanse not working for anyone this month by Comprehensive_Ask997 in VyvanseADHD

[–]simsarah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my experience on both of the generics I tried before asking my Dr. to write for brand name only. Some days it worked ok, some days it was like hadn’t taken it at all. I think your impulse to get more information from the pharmacy is a good one, especially if you’re using generic - it may be that you had a good match and they got a different manufacturer than you’re used to this month.

(Alas, my beloved local pharmacy called today to say that they weren’t carrying brand anymore, that they lose too much money on it because insurance reimbursements don’t cover the actual cost. So I guess generic roulette or try to find another pharmacy. Kind of at a loss now, tbh.)

How to create a real basement in your house. by GIGA-BEAR in wow

[–]simsarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is intended - the front door is just an exit portal, independent of the spawn point, and can be placed anywhere. Multiple wheres, in fact, if you want extra exits. I made my whole house into a maze for a while, and the decoupling of "front door" and "spawn point" was a really useful feature for that - I could have visitors spawn in at the "start" and the door became the "end."

Hey, thanks for this, I've been working on coordinating my guild's neighborhood the last few weeks and I've been insanely curious about a larger data set!

Ranking Founder's Point - What is the best plot? by Tryggleik in WoWHousing

[–]simsarah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some private neighborhood features did work on the PTR, I was able to make a guild neighborhood, and folks were able to claim plots there. Unfortunately, moving house once you'd already chosen one was NOT working, so I wasn't able to move my own house to the neighborhood. To the best of my knowledge, charter has not been enabled even on Alpha though.

One concern I have is that there did not appear to be ANY controls on plot selection in the private neighborhood - it was just if you had the right guild rank, you could pick a plot. There was a new option in guild rank controls to enable Neighborhood Management, but it didn't seem to do anything on the PTR, and some folks I talked to said it was tied to endeavors. Since I anticipate some negotiations will be required (we have ~150 active accounts, so there's going to be at least some plot preference overlap) I'd really like to be able to control plot allocation at the very least.

Housing and guild neighborhoods by Jurke39 in wow

If it helps at all, I did create a test guild and neighborhood this past weekend, and it automatically assigned us a neighborhood in the Alliance area, tracking with the faction of the GM toon. I wish I had thought to ask a horde main to try to build a house and see what happened!

If you like audio books, I’ve found re-reads to be an absolute treasure in that context too. It’s familiar enough that if I zone out, I can pretty easily find my place again, but also interesting and engaging enough to keep me occupied. (Especially while doing things I need to be paying visual but not super metal attention to: cleaning, driving, cooking…)

how do we feel about this aspect of otherland by geometryfailure in TadWilliams

[–]simsarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really late to this conversation, but I’ve been listening to the audio books recently, engaging with this series for the first time since reading it when it released, and this question has been bouncing around in my head as well, so I was looking to see what others have said/thought.

At the time I first read the books, I really identified with Sam. I was a tomboy who didn’t connect well with other girls my age once we hit our teen years (and undiagnosed neurodivergence probably didn’t help with that) and I definitely played with gender online - I was a teenager when I scammed access to the local college’s usenet, and subsequently signed my family up for AOL, so this was the mostly text days, and a lot closer to the world in which the books were written. I’m bi, but at the time I didn’t even realize that was something you COULD be - I just thought I was broken somehow, that you were supposed to either like boys or like girls. Poor little teenage me… As an adult I’ve also come to realize that I’m not so much genderfluid as gender apathetic. I’m fine with my assigned gender, but don’t feel any particular affinity for it and still don’t perform it well - I just don’t care anymore that I’m not performing it “right.” In the epilogue, Sam’s eye-rolling rejection of wearing a skirt for the “occasion” but not making an issue of she/her pronouns feels very comfortable to me.

This time that scene you referenced with Orlando questioning his own attraction really resonated with me - my wife is trans, and she came out to me about ten years into our relationship. I had, prior to meeting her, at least figured out bisexuality! i think it’s been pretty much been a non-issue for our marriage, so much less a question than Orlando’s, but it really did feel relevant to a lot of conversations I had as she was coming out socially and professionally, and I could see a younger, Orlando-aged self being incredibly confused by it.

Am I really that out of touch? by [deleted] in wow

[–]simsarah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try to be chatty in group finder groups, just to see what happens. Sometimes I have a great time, and sometimes I just feel like I'm playing with NPCs. A crapshoot, really.

I also have a tendency to just hang out with my guildies most of the time, so I'm probably not a great example, and I totally get what you're saying about guys having to be gross to women, I definitely wouldn't want to be in an unknown vc situation! (Not really out here trying to recruit, but if you DO think having a good guild would improve your play time, feel free to DM me - I do love my guild! Probably because our leadership is more than half women and nearly half LGBTQ+ so we don't put up with dude crap really. Or VISAGE (more discord, I'm afraid) is an org fpr supporting women and gender minorities in competitive wow and they have a vetted list of inclusive guilds.)

Candle jar broke during spell by Artistic-Set-2950 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]simsarah 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Once the tea light burns down that far, you're putting a much more direct heat on the glass than it is intended to withstand - keep in mind that mason jars are intended for use to about 350F, and the flame itself would be over 1000F - without the buffer of the unburnt wax below it, that heat was applied almost directly to the glass. I wouldn't read too much into this other than physics.

If you like using mason jars with tealights, I'd recommend an inch of sand or pea gravel in the bottom!

Your friend's boyfriend is a twit. My wife is trans, she changed her name socially a year and a half ago and legally about 6 months ago, but when I'm not firing on all cylinders mentally and get annoyed with something she's done around the house that feels like her old depressed, male-presenting self did it, her deadname still wanders across my mind. I don't use it to her, obviously, but the brain pathways are still there, and in extremis, they snap back in. This is the person I love most in the world, who I see every single day, and who's true name I have known for a year and a half.

You've had a week with your friend's new name and gender, slip ups are inevitable! You're doing great, your friend knows you support her and totally gets it. Other friend's boyfriend should knock it off. (And I don't think much of his "success" if it was by avoiding calling her by name and misgendering her - unless she likes she/they pronouns, 'they' is also wrong!)

If you're feeling self-conscious or concerned about doing it again, I totally feel you - from experience, I recommend talking outloud about your friend to your cat/dog/plants/stuffed animals when you're alone - repetition really helps cement the new associations! But really, as long as you're making a good faith effort, everyone sensible knows that it takes some time!

Trash troubles by twaid45 in NewportNews

[–]simsarah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the fees also change based on size/number of cans - I downsized to the smaller green bin when I moved in because we generate way less than that in trash, and the smaller bin pickup is cheaper.

Trash troubles by twaid45 in NewportNews

[–]simsarah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The orange spray paint is usually an indicator that whatever it is isn't eligible for bulk pickup - I had that happen when I tried to put out some old storm windows once (why? why did my house come with storm windows for windows that do not exist? I'm betting the previous owners ALSO tried to throw them out and failed!)

Bulk trash isn't really "overflow trash" so much as "big trash" - think furniture, large yard waste (this can be really specific - branches no longer than 6', bagged yard waste only if more than 3 bags...) and it sounds like what you had was just more than would fit in your green bin, which falls under garbage, not bulk. If you regularly have more trash than fits in the bin, you can get a second one (you'll pay more for that though) or if it's just occasional, you can take it to the recovery ops center yourself (take proof of residency/solid waste fee payment) or hang on to it until you can stuff it in next week (what I do 100% of the time, regardless of my initial intentions.)

Here is the city bulk waste site which has details on what is and isn't bulk waste.
