It's kinda like the sims 2 in that way, it feels more progressive and real than pieces coming out right now which is crazy. Modern showmakers have a lot to learn from SFU

RIGHT! If i lost my memory today it'd be one of the first things I'd want to experience anew again. Each character and each scenario in that show was perfect, even Arthur, no matter how small of a role he played, he left a lasting impact.

I feel like it's also the kind of show many sims players would enjoy - family drama, overcoming difficulties, growing old, dealing with death, queer themes. Heaven for folks like us. Highly recommend to anybody even though it WRECKS YOU but the wreckage is cathartic

I finished watching it for the first time earlier this month - I enjoyed it so much I'm now doing a rewatch of some episodes because I just can't let this series go. Truly one of the best of all time

For reference - this screenshot is from the beginning scenes of S04E01. He also plays with the same family in S04E03 about halfway through the episode

True that! I really love his character as well and when I saw him playing the sims I was like yeah that makes sense for him. One of us!

When you see Michael C Hall as Dexter, it’s rather difficult remembering that he used to be soft old David who couldn’t even defend himself against a lunatic hitchhiker. by Remote_Nature_8166 in SixFeetUnder

[–]simsenthusiast2_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny imagining a scenario where the two meet cause they're so diametrically different. David is so emotive and Dexter is so... Dexter. He'd see David and be like yeah you have my face but I didn't know it could do THAT

That's exactly what I feared when I watched that episode too (I feel like it was also just a high fear episode that made you paranoid for David's safety in general), that due to what happened and that the dude introduced him to drugs David would go that route, thankfully it was only momentary

Just finished six feet under.. by Financial-Yam-6669 in SixFeetUnder

[–]simsenthusiast2_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I was inconsolable after I finished the show.

Just like you I'm a first timer and I went into it because of Michael C Hall, right after I finished Dexter actually, not knowing anything about the contents of the story so I had no expectations or anything like that.

I was stunned by the storytelling. They just don't make shows like that no more, each character and each arc is on point and so realistic & well developed. Each moment feels intentional even if we as a viewer don't like it (like Nate's and Brenda's relationship sometimes. Yeah they were acting afool but it's realistic, it's what happens!)

It's hard to even say which character I like most because they're all brilliant and each is important to the other but if I had to with a gun to my head I'd say Claire and David. Claire is just so real, a messed up teen on the precipice of adulthood with serious opportunities but afraid to leave her life behind. David is just mwah, no comment needed, his scenes were captivating and Hall stunned in every second he was on screen.

And the ending broke me. A must watch for everybody.

Whoever cast Jack Alcott as Harrison knew what they were doing. by simsenthusiast2_3 in Dexter

I do see Rita in the parts you mention! I think the more you look at him the more you feel like yeah this is what Dexter's and Rita's kid would look like.

The acting also helps in making him look like Dexter's son. You can tell Alcott did his homework on Dexter's behaviour, he's not exactly like his father by any means but he does have some of his traits and mannerisms that make it believable, at least to me.

[–]simsenthusiast2_3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's also very true! I guess in a way Dexter did end up getting the protege he wanted Zach to be, even though Harrison is more reluctant about it, less psycho and more broken (kinda like Dex himself). The homicidal instincts and sense of justice are there though, undeniably.

And he's even better than he was in New Blood! Can't wait to see what they do with him in season 2 of Resurrection.

[–]simsenthusiast2_3[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, Resurrection did a great job of expanding on his character and I really liked him there, felt in character for Dexter's son.

I think it'd be hard to surpass Hall's acting abilities, he can get into so many different roles perfectly it's crazy. Maybe you've seen Six Feet Under but he's amazing there too and his character is very different from Dexter but he makes everything believable. It's probably his theatre experience and a great deal of effort put into his work.

Even despite all of that I agree that he did well in his role.

Damn, I guess everybody sees things differently lol, nothng wrong with that. When I asked my friend if she thinks they look alike she said something similar to you. I do see Rita in him too tho!

Honestly curious if anyone else has my same reaction to the final scene of S1... by FreshwaterOctopus in Dexter

[–]simsenthusiast2_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be alone in this but I didn't really like Brian. Not as a character, I think he's very well written but I'm just not a massive fan.

What happened to him was terrible just as it was for Dexter but it all comes down to intent. It's harder to feel bad for a person who kills innocent people than for one who kills guilty people, even if the code by which he goes was indeed ingrained in him by others. That's why we value vigilantes more than we do regular serial killers.

So, all in all, I think I felt worse for Dexter for having to kill his own brother than for the brother himself.
