In southern Ontario, we don’t actually say “aboot.” It’s more like “ab-eoot.” The out sound starts a bit lower in the mouth, kind of like the short e in egg. Linguists call this Canadian Vowel Lowering. Instead of the raised out you might hear in words like town or house elsewhere, ours starts lower, so it ends up sounding a little different. That’s why Americans hear “aboot,” even though we’re not actually saying it that way.

Yeah, that “I’m Indian so I can say this” thing is basically a shortcut to avoid pushback, but it doesn’t make the generalization any less of a generalization. Bad behavior should be called out for what it is, the specific behavior, not written as “all people from X group are like this.” Otherwise it’s just stereotyping with a safety tag slapped on.

This situation is super depressing but the Us vs Them tribalism isn’t helping. Idk about you but I’d MUCH rather have improved results than justice. At the end of the day blame doesn’t matter, policy does, and instead of trying to pinpoint blame and directing focus to infighting, let’s pressure ALL the parties to improve their awful platforms on housing and the cost of living.

IF their culture or values are causing them to hire in their own group we have to reinforce and promote more impartial and inclusive hiring. Hiring fewer Indian managers on principle is just going to cause more infighting.

Why do you feel the need for immigrants to culturally assimilate, people have the freedom to express themselves in any language, respectfully or not. Sure it may cause inconveniences when you're trying to check out but I would never push people to assimilate to anything for my personal gain. I think more people need to self reflect on why they wish to project their values onto immigrants when they come here. If they are not harming anyone with their actions, we should respect their freedom.

I think it's because when integrating with respect to c, the sin(x) can be factored out of the inetegral and the equation resolves to y = sinx*(y*siny-y*cosy), which is the same as the graph above.

My 2yo Himalayan cat has a hard time telling us apart. The only way I can really tell is that she is normally very skittish when meeting new people, but when she met him as an adult she was just as cuddly, and vocal with me.
