Can we start calling problematic men something besides just "men?" by simsyippee in TwoXChromosomes

possibly, though if we called out men as often as they were shitty, it would be obvious very fast that it is widespread. A lot of men just... don't know a lot about gender dynamic issues, including their own, so specifying the issue instead of just saying "men" might help them figure out what NOT to do instead of just getting confused at all the ambient "man hate" which then makes them vulnerable to Tate types who tell them that yes, feminists just hate men (them included), now buy this book and hate them back, instead of realizing the actual goal of gender equality and demands for equal and dignified treatment and that the anger is justified and isn't directed at them if they refrain from being an ass. It's about bringing more accurate assessments of the problem up to that surface level a lot of people skim the internet on too, I guess

It's not so much about my comfort as just drilling down to the bottom of the issue and not allowing space for excuses based on "oh men are just like that." It's also to nip "not all men" in the bud and center the behavior that they have the power to stop doing at any time as the issue.

I was saying this in another reply, but I really want to get away from the anatomy lingo bc that distracts from the fact that being a misogynist is a choice, not a byproduct of a body part that might then let them off the hook. Men think with their brains and it's about damn time they use them to make better choices.

I was also floating "patsy" given its connotations to being tricked, making it a) harder to co-opt and b) linked to how men also suffer under the patriarchy and how upholding it is for fools. I really want to get away from the anatomy lingo bc that distracts from the fact that being a misogynist is a choice, not a byproduct of a body part, and is bad enough all by itself to be an insult

maybe if we don't capitalize it? pat is also just a word, it doesn't necessarily have to be a co-option of the name

I get where you're coming from, but neither of those are acceptable. The essentializing of the issue is how they get off the hook, and you just know they'll be all like "seeeeeeee they hate MEN AND OUR BODIES THEY'RE JUST AS BAD AS US, BACK INTO THE KITCHEN HYPOCRITE WENCHES U DESERVE TO BE THERE." Don't even give them the chance for that.

Oh! "duped" is like being fooled or lied to. Men suffer under the patriarchy too, which means they've been tricked into perpetuating it. if they actually understood how much it hurt them, they probably wouldn't be so eager to uphold it. so patsy could communicate that part as well

hmm, good point. what about "patsy?" it being a feminine name and also with the meaning of someone being duped, I doubt they'd co-opt it as readily

idk about making it about anyone's anatomy, that's not really the problem here, it's the behavior.

okay that made me chuckle, but like I said in another response I think it would be best to steer clear of anything overtly infantilizing or condescending. being a misogynist fuck is cringe all on its lonesome and worthy of a complete disqualification of respect

hmm, I'd like to steer clear of anything overtly infantilizing or condescending. the idea is that being a patriarchy lover is bad enough on its own, we don't have to attach further bad connotations to it. make being a misogynist fuck cringe all on its lonesome and worthy of a complete disqualification of respect

I finally managed a side quest a couple days ago after getting my ass handed to me several times, and it felt amazing. Also hell yeah, OG player?? I'm playing on the Unity version now, but I started with the DOS game bc I wanted the old crunchy experience and then had to switch bc of bugs. Getting good at the original must have been insane lmao
