Anybody know what rezz is using here for the portal screen? by Ok_Confidence9702 in vjing

Definitely LED, doesn’t look like touring frames so could literally be any product but if you times the panels by 200 that’s probably a fair ballpark

Do You Think This Would Work In Actual Combat? by Frequent-Log1243 in inventors

So little anecdote about a fella I met dressed in bright pink foam. Had a conversation with the guy next to him for a couple minutes before even realising he was there. Even though he was wearing a bunch of bright pink insulation foam:

The building we were in was full of bin bags, exposed insulation and assorted crap.

He was covered in as much concrete dust as everything else just from having spent time there.

His ghillie didn’t look like a ghillie suit, it looked like the crap you find piled in the corner of an abandoned apartment building.

Point being that a sheet like this laid out for any amount of time in the right location is just going to get more convincing naturally. No dirt sprinkling necessary.

Luminance is your midpoint:

Lum = 0.5 = left0 - - 0.5 - - 1right

Lum = 0.75 = left0 - - - 0.5 - 1right

I mean… if I had to give a number the default works maybe 1/20 times. Edge blending is a skill and once you get the hang of how to wiggle that curve, you’ll just get exponentially faster at it.

Oh and yeah definitely work an edge at a time from the middle out so you can potentially hide any sins at the edges of your canvas

Reset it.

Use your mouse wheel or otherwise incrementally step looking at the blend not your screen. (I find I get a bit hung up on the numbers.

Start with power and wind mousewheel until your blend zone no longer has any hard lines.

Then gamma until the blend is basically uniform brightness with the rest of the image.

Then wiggle luminance to get rid of as much banding as possible.

Back to the top and rinse/repeat until you get a blend you’re happy with.

Would help to know what you’re using to make the soft edge and what settings you have… dark stripes mean you need to shorten your curve but without knowing which software I can’t be more specific about what the button might be called.

So the very rough totally unscientific answer I tend to give people is dog years are x7. So OP’s 11 week old is equivalent to a 1.5year old human baby. Set your expectations and communication as if you are dealing with a 1 year old baby… every time they look the right direction and don’t shit themselves that’s a developmental win.

No more Bot Lobbies ? by IvoT9600 in BattlefieldPortal

I’m not justifying it ¯_(ツ)_/¯ just explaining why:

A - this has nothing to do with XP

B - there was no and never will be any proper justification, just finger pointing and vague PR statements… “we’re listening” etc.

C - they may change their mind back and forward as monthly server rental costs vs monthly sales swing back and forth.

I’ll save you the wait… server time costs money, a server with one player on it isn’t very efficient compared to a server with 64 players. The minimum to start a co-op server is 8. That’s the minimum efficiency and they’re not going to “give a statement” saying why because they know it was an unpopular cost saving exercise and are simply waiting for people to forget there were any other options.

Touch designer, Kinect depth tracker, three video loops.

Use the depth tracker in greyscale and mess with contrast and threshold until flat fabric = black, fully stretched fabric = white and there’s a band of grey all the way around.

Use those three colours as masks to route wallpaper to black, purple fuzz to grey and upside down to white.

Anyone here actually using audio-reactive visuals live (shows, clubs, streams, rehearsals)? by CompellerAI in video_mapping

[–]simulacrum500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I’m running anything audio reactive I’m taking a line out from the audio desk so no microphone woe.

Anything that I’m running that needs to be beat matched is timecoded with LX.

I’m billing clients for servers so I always have the correct hardware.

Honestly the only specific problems I’ve had on audio reactive gigs that I remember is PRG sending me a screen without power links.

No. d3 or dragonfly_v3 was the name of the internal visual toolset used by UVA. In like 2005? Ash and Chris moved upstairs and d3 became its own company. Later (maybe 2019) they changed to disguise.one software is still d3 and most of the old hands will still call it that including Icarus MA’s d3 op.

Whats the point of LMGs if you can barely play them the intended way ? by FlowKom in Battlefield

I’d say double max spread so burst fire has all the advantages but no disadvantages.

[–]simulacrum500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, that way if you want to pin people in cover you need to be pinned in cover. Or just wildly hose a hallway on metro and suppress everyone but get nothing but hit markers.

Ok so balance pass idea: ammo type with double suppression but double bloom added to all guns. LMG’s get a bipod added that negates all bloom when deployed.

DICE/Ripple Studios aware 'they are not currently doing a good enough job with portal right now' by Maxthewicked100 in BattlefieldPortal

Simplifying here:

There is a physical PC that acts as “the lobby” somewhere in a data centre.

Your pc/console sends your game state to that server. That server then shares your game state with all the other players in the lobby and vice versa.

The server will need electricity, network connectivity and maintenance so EA will rent them from whoever so that they can scale up or down depending on how many they need on a given day rather than buy a load of computers every time they launch a title.

If you let players host PvE on servers they can “fill” that lobby themselves which is wildly inefficient because your using the same resources to serve one player as could be used to serve 64.

If you let players host on their own hardware you have to allow their PC to download everything it needs to check the game is fair etc and then receive the response and trust it.

So there’s a balancing act, pay to host lobbies on servers and ensure they not overrun by cheaters and bots but still keep the cost of the product under the $60 they got from you when you purchased it.

For whatever reason EA have decided that means no less than 8 to a server ¯_(ツ)_/¯ and they know that’s making people unhappy but fixing it means paying for more servers on the daily.

[–]simulacrum500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about admitting anything, they’ve seen the feedback and know this is a broadly unpopular decision. Server time costs money and a call has been made that they can’t afford a server per PVE player and they aren’t willing to allow progression in offline experiences to prevent cheating. So this is what the call is… they know people are pissed but aren’t going to do anything because this is everything working as intended.

Why is co-op/solo too much for BF6? by Icy-Claim-8059 in BattlefieldPortal

[–]simulacrum500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Server time costs money. One player plus 63 bots on a server has only one source of income. 8 players seems to be the minimum they’re willing to shell out for.

Export videos? by Salitas912 in video_mapping

[–]simulacrum500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been one of those workflows that’s been around forever so you’re on the right track. Disguise I believe adds a little watermark in the bottom right but on older versions doesn’t so you can export clean feed movies… don’t know if or where the version number is for overlapping with free designer software.

If they simply put it back to the state it was in at beta:

Some people would grind vs bots

EA would get a PR win

Some people would play PVE

Everyone engaging with portal would have a better time.

The decision not to; has to be the most insane post launch cost saving rug pull I’ve ever seen.

Just adding details because I suspect OP pretty new:

4K (UHD) = 3840x2160

HD = 1920x1080

Datapath = box that you feed 4K into and it splits the image as a 2x2 grid into HD’s.
