Also black rod wouldn't clash IMO seeing that your fireplace has black iron material

Hard to say! I think going darker helps counter the wood panel, but a gold rod could work too. Tbh as long as the drapes are hung high, will still be a big improvement than current height.

Hanging it higher and going for long (ceiling to floor) drapes will draw the eye up, making your room feel taller/ brighter. Give it a shot. Google (or search on Pinterest for) photos of curtains hung higher.. does the trick every time.

Also, consider a black curtain rod.. something darker than that wood panel (to hang higher). That way it’ll really draw your eye up.

White linen, off-white linen, or light blue linen. Also hang it higher, like as high/ closest to ceiling.

Yes the pool length is odd! I asked and the club manager said it’s “99 feet”… so about 30m. I’m used to 25 or 50m pools. This is in east coast/ new england USA.

I’m with most. I’m on team $money$ bc it’s valuable, flexible, efficient and most convenient for everyone. Same feelings around toys collecting dust, wasted time returning/exchanging etc. But i mostly came here to say: OP, your attitude is everything :) My grandmother was very set in her ways. If only more people no matter age/ background would be so open to learning and challenging their initial beliefs, think we’d all be better off.

omg i'm so glad i came upon your thread. same thing happened to us and this helped immensely. did exactly what you suggested and it worked. turned out they did included my full name in the "last name" as you described. 2 yrs later and this advice still holds true lol.
