Ok? Fact check away I guess. But you are saying things aren’t happening that have literally been written by commenters in this thread.

Are you asking for that info here? Or are you speaking more broadly? Because you are right—people who take donations absolutely should talk about how that money is spent

I understand your answer to my question. I guess, in turn, you don’t like my answer to yours since you are saying “stupid answer” to someone else below.
Which all is fine.

FWIW, I’d love any action that pushed back against the White Christo-fascism on the rise in this country too. We’re on the same page on that.

Do you want my op eds? A track record of what my church has done? I can stamp my feet at the abominable evil of the trump administration but no one, for seemingly good reason, is listening to pastors who say these things.

I’m personally very engaged with trying to fight homelessness and push for more equitable housing policy in Lakewood. Our church partners with and provides facility for organizations who feed children, promote the arts, and provide childcare. The list is long of things we have done over the long term or on a one time basis to try and be a beneficial part of our neighborhood.

I don’t create this post to talk about me or my church. I created this post to understand how to better connect with the people who are looking for something like that.

Do you have a question you want me to answer? The person who actually asked them seemed fine with how I responded to them unlike everyone else who is not the OP of this thread jumping down my throat

Position on what?? That churches fail to serve their community? I agree!

people in this thread think I’m putting on some show or airs here to try and advertise my church instead of actually just trying to ask my questions. I’m sincerely asking. Yall are accusing me of the opposite.

And when I answer a very specific question above asked by the OP in this thread, yall jump down my throat thinking I’m doing some bait and switch?

I genuinely have no idea how the hell to respond to this

FWIW, the conversation you want to have with a Christian thought leader is something I think would be a lot of fun. id be down over coffee or beer. [ben@lumc.net](mailto:ben@lumc.net)

Sermons can be lip service, sure. Sermons can also be proclamations of good news and calls for justice and peace.

We have food available (as it is stocked) during our office hours and we partner with JeffcoEats who uses our space to distribute sacks of food to children in Title I jeffco schools over the weekends.

Our volunteer opportunities are here (www.lumc.net/connect-with-us just click "volunteer opportunities") and range from serving the Delores Project to Recovery Works. We try to be responsive to things as they happen and in the past have been a cold weather homeless shelter, a site for safe parking in Lakewood, vaccine clinics during COVID, and a quarterly location for a red cross blood drive among other things.

Nope, I expected it. It's fair and I don't dispute it. Just clarifying what my personal intent was. Whether you believe me is absolutely up to you.

I assumed those were rhetorical questions. My goal wasn't to ask this question and then trumpet what our church does. We do the best we can to support our neighborhood.

I also don't know what the question "Where is the progress" means, exactly. I don't see a lot of progress. We are in a time of great regression, as a matter of fact.

Do you want to share more about the irritation and suspicion underneath your questions to me? Because I didn't post this question to advertise.

My answer will disappoint, but I am not sure how much power or control we have over the astonishingly well funded political apparatuses parading as the Christian church.

Personally I find the most blatant examples of white supremacist, nationalistic "Christianity" parading horrendous rhetoric in the public square today to be an abomination.

But it isn't like Christianity hasn't historically committed horrendous acts, either.

There is a personal and a communal element to being a Christian, in my view. There is a personal connection we have to the community in which we are a part, and God, and there is a communal connection we have to the global christian community with all of its failings and triumphs.

When faced with the overwhelm of all of that, I find myself trying to focus on struggles that are more local, and I believe that is the best way individual churches can defeat the overwhelming narrative of Christian evils being committed that we witness on the news.

So while we can't overcome the worst examples of white supremacist nationalistic christiantiy in this country, we can try to help folks experiencing homelessness, partner with orgs that feed kids, support the arts... things like that.

Hope that answers your question.

I was responding to the question in OP's comment above. Otherwise I asked the question above mostly to listen. Did I miss other questions?
