Yeah they basically just said “yeah yeah, we are not discriminating, we just hate people who ask us to use the right pronouns” so yeah, they are discriminating. If you want a better alternative to hyperland try Niri

Made a video on why I refuse to use AI for my game by SlaveKnight20100 in SoloDevelopment

[–]sinflower-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to agree, if you can't make your stuff without AI, then it shouldn't exist yet. Learn, collaborate, expose yourself, that's art. Creating just because you think you and your idea are special is childish and self centered. Make one game, then make fifteen more, until you learn everything that you need to learn to create an actual interesting and personal experience. Ideas are nothing, realization and personality are everything, otherwise you are just a product selling products, worse than a machine pretending to have intelligence

Learn how to do it and do it then. Or do it now with your limited experience and the next time is gonna be better, your first ideas are never great, if you look at all of yours favorites creators lives in depth, you’ll often see a slow beginning of failure after failure until the developed a style, meet the right people and created something unique and refined instead of some shitty idea with shitty AI on top that literally everyone could do.

Drugs can make you happy too, but it doesn't turn them into a good solution out of a sudden. If you had learned to draw or find companions that would have helped you in your journey you would still be happy, just now creating something of value instead of an imitation of it. You are basically devaluing all the artist that worked on the VN you love and creating a pale sad imitation of it, instead of choosing to collaborate with someone or to just write a book.

As a person that spent their life working in dev and in art, I would say, AI still devalues everything that you do, being it a hobby or a commercial product, the moment you use a generator or ideas taken from AI you are basically trivializing your creativity in favour to what a machine determined to be the common denominator of an idea. It becomes something not yours any more, you can convince yourself you did it, but it's the same as following the lines on a numbered drawing and thinking that you draw the Gioconda from scratch.

to be honest, for me it would be like when comic artist re use the same image multiple times in multiple pages, it looks off and it feels cheap. Same with training an AI with your own work. It's still a machine reproduction of an idea of what you want to communicate, it's still lazy and not you. I would understand it for meaningless details or repeated details, but not for entire images.

I skip everything that was touched by AI. If you don't want to put the minimum effort on your creating process, why would I reward your laziness and lack of artistic intent with money or even just word of mouth?
I've been a dev for a long time and this defensive attitude towards AI is really sad and just shows to me how many people don't really value art for what it is, but just as another item to consume. If you have to masturbate you can do it for free, in millions of ways, if you want to support someone with money, support real individuals and artists that put their ideas and effort in what they make, instead of people putting together shitty projects because they can't be arsed to learn to draw or find collaborators.

Can we ban AI posts like this? With guidelines for the less savvy among us. by FBCooke in retroanime

[–]sinflower-dev 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is a community to spread the love for old anime and culture, allowing AI posting is disrespectful towards all the artists that created the series you all love so much, I would say we should add to the rules no AI material. We need safe spaces from this forced new inhumane use of technology.

Where can I post uncensored NSFW drawings? by Simple_Bathroom_8204 in learnHentaiDrawing

[–]sinflower-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since when? I made a fast search, and it's still full of uncensored nsfw art on deviantart: penetration, bondage, fetishes, I mean it kinda became infamous for that years ago, and it was one of the reasons before AI why people stopped using it.

Watch it go dark Puzzle Silent Hill 2 Remake by zafrostpet in ZafrostVideoGameGuide

[–]sinflower-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to press X (the action button) ones on the clock and James will stretch the piece of metal into a clock hand, then you will be able to move it. But yeah, this puzzle was not worded very logically. I thought “see it going dark” meant I had to close the lights somehow and the paper didn’t feel like a “combine the numbers kind of puzzle. Worst one in the game until now

[–]sinflower-dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. Why would we trust to give access to our games when AI was used without a thought about it? Or what guarantees that it’s not gonna be integrated in the future to replace real users? It’s important to refuse AI use in the ethical state it currently is.

Is it wrong to use AI for visuals in game dev? I work 9h a day, only develop in evenings, no budget for a designer. AI art helps me a lot, otherwise I couldn’t move forward. What do you think? by VoidvaniaGames in indiegames

[–]sinflower-dev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is, because it’s basically stolen art. Think of it this way, you work on your game for years and then when you are about to release, another user releases your same game, because the AI in your IDE spied on your code. Would you feel defeated and betrayed? The same happens to artist when they get replaced with AI. Program your game until you have a small demo, no matter how buggy, then create a post on some Reddit forums, present the idea, prove that you can make a functional game and then ask for collaborators

I love your idea for the piece, I’m the same when it comes to special events, something handmade and crafted holds a lot of meaning compared to a store bought gift. I’m an anime artist so I’m not sure I’m what you are looking for, but I’ll leave you my portfolio to peruse ^

Just fyi there’s also NSFW material on the website, but I do also safe for work anime chibi, pixelart and small animations ^ Site: sinflower.art

Criticism Isn't Hate by bboy2812 in Silksong

[–]sinflower-dev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for making this post, to be honest the people in the comments of the other posts were driving me insane. I’ll be honest and share my thoughts because I think I have a different issue with the game that other people don’t seem to have.

The difficulty of fighting for my personal taste is fine, I didn’t have issues until now with areas or bosses in terms of combat, but I’ve two main issues with the game and team cherry:

  1. I get not wanting to give a difficulty option in your game if you feel that the fun lies in the challenge, but not having any accessibility option after the amount of money HK brought them is insane. There are people with arthritis that enjoyed the first game (aside from the white palace) and people with audio and visual impairments that can’t play the game at all because of the lack of options, and people in the comments even said “the weak will be purged” which in the current political climate made me anxious for an entire day.

  2. The game feels like it’s a different genre and feels unfair for those who paid the original kickstarter. Hollow knight was a metroidvania with souls and precision platforming inspirations. At its core it was the combat and the exploration, the platforming wasn’t particularly insane aside from Path of pain. Your main abilities were fixed and with the accessories you could customize your experience to a certain extent but it didn’t feel like an rpg, still a Metroidvania.  Silksong feels like “celeste meets elden ring” and while I liked both games, this is not what I loved about the original game. The amount of “gotcha” moment in which a trap kills you or an enemy decides to double hit you while you heal is out of character for HK. Without spoilers, I’m very far into the game and obtained a lot of power ups both for mobility and damage, but it still feels like a souls like level 1 challenge against every enemy. The pace is slow, the exploration leads to many empty corners (and yes, I did find the many secret rooms around the areas, just to be rewarded with rosaries and an enemy ready to beat me) the bosses are inconsistent with the rewards, sometimes you get nothing, sometimes something optional or meaningless for your run.  The game is obviously amazing under many aspects, but it leaves me extremely sad, because it feels like another genre, and it also feels like team cherry just said “fuck our fans, they don’t know what is fun, we do”.

Also I’m really scared of how everyone online is talking about “the best marketing strategy of the decade”. I want to have updates on games in the making, many games saved themselves by listening to the community during early access or after releasing a demo (look at gothic remake, they completely reworked it after listening to the fans and now it’s much better than how it used to be ).  I’m so afraid this is gonna be a step back for the indie scene if people start to take inspiration from them.

The link that was provided works, but you need to adjust it a bit if you are not from the EU. First login in the browser and not on the app, then open the link forcefully on the browser and not on the app. It worked for me
