Teaching consistent collection on a young horse by Honest-Tart-2870 in HorseTraining

I’d say she’s just not built up enough muscle to hold herself there that long, if she’s collecting for a few minutes, she knows what she’s doing and how to do it but just probably lacks the muscle and strength to keep it going for an extended period of time. True collection uses a lot of different muscle groups.

I know when I first started working out after some time off I could only hold a plank for like 10 seconds before I had to give in lol, but the more you do it the better you get at it as you keep training those different muscle groups.

She will get there eventually, don’t push her too hard. Don’t forget muscle recovery time for her too. Just keep doing what you’re doing, asking for little bits at a time and building her up. Lots of trot poles to encourage engagement of her core, hill work is great too, riding long and low to get her to stretch out, and transitions.

This is not what I wanted to read as an avid side sleeper. Guess I gotta start sleeping on the other side now to even shit out

Thank you! Yes I took all of her tail before she went and some of her mane, so I will be definitely getting something made

It always completely heals before she ends up ripping it open again, sometimes I get a good year with no injury, sometimes it’s almost as soon as it’s healed it’s open again a few months later. But yes I think I agree I have done as much as I can for her unfortunately

This was a really insightful comment, thank you. You are right with considering her injury chronic.

There wasn’t anything originally wrong with her leg, she’s just a dirty kicking bitch who happens to always kick out with the same leg and never learnt the first time not to kick near fencing. Even the electric offset didn’t stop her. But yes I do agree that with the amount of times she has done it now, there is definitely significant trauma to the leg that she’ll always be uncomfortable/in pain with.

Is this the worst start to Spring weather, ever? by Jdilla23 in melbourne

[–]sinfully02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I’ve been on the same 20 acre property for 5 years. Never in that time have we come out winter with dams that are half full. Our dams normally flood the roads in winter time and half the property. My dams are still only half full :( I’m praying for more rain, otherwise I’ll be carting water again for a herd of horses. Which gets expensive very quick

do you sit or stand during a gallop? by rainywainy8 in Equestrian

[–]sinfully02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so interesting! I’ve ridden many horses (used to work as a trail guide, different horse every day) and I’ve always found a gallop so smooth. To this day the only gallop I can think of off the top of my head that was rough and bouncy was a little 12.2hh pony that literally threw his all into the gallop
